My Demelonzo Headcanon
They have known each other since they were kittens. Demeter is the middle child of Old Deuteronomy and Grizabella, while Alonzo is the only child of Bustopher Jones.
At first, Demeter and Alonzo did not get along. He was overly spoiled and self-centered, whereas Demeter had inherited her father's sense of community and responsibility. She also absolutely hated when he would purposely mess up her fur something she took great pride in.
Years later, Demeter returns to the tribe with Bombalurina after her troubled relationship with Macavity. When she and Alonzo cross paths again, they are both completely changed. The once confident, slightly bossy Demeter now walks with a tense, skittish posture. Meanwhile, Alonzo has grown into a responsible protector who deeply cares for the safety of others and helps watch over the kittens (even if Tumblebrutus and Pounce constantly test the limits of his patience). They gradually grow close again, eventually going out on "dates" to have dinner and stargaze together.
An Alternate "Jellicle Ball" Angle
I also love a concept I came up with where Demeter is forced to act as Macavity's accomplice during the Jellicle Ball. In this version, Macavity threatens to murder her family (or do something equally terrible) if she doesn't help him. Out of fear, she agrees.
However, during the Jellicle Ball, her feelings for Alonzo overcome her fear, giving her the courage to stand up to Macavity. The same goes for Alonzo, who finally overcomes his own insecurities, proving to himself that he can be a true protector for the tribe—especially for Munkustrap and Demeter. In the end, they nuzzle and confess their love for one another.
