Inspired by that YouTube video and its comment section, I started thinking about the concept of Munkustrap as a morally ambiguous character. He’d be a good, affectionate leader to the tribe, but he would do morally questionable things to protect them. Munkustrap would truly be capable of killing to protect the ones he loves. Coupled with the headcanon that Munkustrap is a Maine Coon (or half Maine Coon), he could do something severe to smaller dog breeds like Yorkshires (Pollicles), Pomeranians (Poms), Pugs, and Pekingese (Pekes).
The idea of cat and dog tribes being in constant territorial conflict is interesting. The junkyard is the best territory in the area for stray or indoor-outdoor animals, so do the dogs have to fight among themselves for the few remaining territories because they don't want to take on the Jellicles due to their physical conditioning? I mean, I wouldn't want to get kicked by a dancer with those muscular legs, and it must be tough to knock down someone with that kind of balance.
This also reminded me that (if memory serves me right) in the Zurich production, Munkustrap is somewhat wary of and even a bit hostile toward Mistoffelees, perhaps because of his magical powers. That was actually pretty cold.
Finally I’ve settled in nicely back to my university, along with getting over a bought of sickness that came on as well (T_T) I can catch up! For this Saturday I decided on the 2004 Warsaw production. I really liked Demeter, with all the shapes and colors! I’m not quite sure I depicted her how I wanted, but I’m pleased nonetheless! These Warsaw costumes are so cute!!!

My main take away watching all the older cats during Bustopher Jones is that every single one of them either has known or wants to know him carnally. This ESPECIALLY goes for Jennyanydots for what I'm sure are obvious reasons, but my goodness they're all so down bad for this man and honestly? Good for them! He's cute and suave and very intelligent by cat reckoning (getting both old and fat are ACCOMPLISHMENTS especially if you're a stray cat, life's rough out here! Eat winkles and shrimps!)
This is pretty much everything I thought in terms of the relationships in this show. So stuff might not match up. Also, spoilers.
Munkustrap and Cassandra are a couple. They're paired together a lot and as someone who normally ships Casslonzostrap, I very much appreciated it.
Pouncival is their kitten. He looks a bit like Cass, and the way that Munkustrap acted towards him was affectionate in a way that I could see him as his kid. Since Pounce is the POV, I could see it as him sneaking into the Jellicle Ball when he wasn't supposed to, or this is how they introduce the new kittens to the Jellicle Ball.
Standard Munk and Tugger as Old Deuteronomy's kids. Munk was confirmed to be Old Deuteronomy's son by her actress.
They acted like such brothers in this. Tugger literally pushes Munk out of the way so he can say hi to Old Deuteronomy first, Munk nagged him when he was being lazy during Skimbleshanks and Munk pushed Tugger out of the way to protect him from Macavity.
To go along with this, Munkustrap also presented Pounce to Old Deuteronomy, and it read to me as like, introducing her grandson to her for the first time.
Tugger and Alonzo hated each other in a way that made made me think they should kiss. Yes, Tugger spent his entire number chasing Bomba, but counterpoint, Alonzo spent most of the number chasing Tugger and called him a terrible bore. Also they were playfully annoying each other a couple of time's and I like that.
George and Rumpleteazer are Skimble's kittens. George because they're costume's very much match and Teazer, because she does the start for Skimbleshanks with Old Deuteronomy.
Admetus and Victoria are exes and he's bitter about it. It is literally the best reason I can think of for why he has Alonzo and Tugger help him pick on Pounce in The Jellicle Ball section.
Alternative reason though, Admetus as a Cassandra/Macavity kitten. There was some weird stuff at the end where it seemed like the cats were acknowledging in universe that Admetus and Macavity are played by the same actor. IDK what that was about, but I go with Cassandra for the mom since they do also have some similar colors and she was comforting him after Mr. Mistoffelees. Which if we go with my other headcanon that she's also Pounce's mom, this makes the two half brothers.
Every time Grizabella appeared, Jenny would immediately grab Sillabub and make sure that the two couldn't get near each other. Then at the end the cats hug Griz to welcome her back, but they for this line hug behind Sillabub to do it. Except Jenny doesn't join in, and instead goes right up to Griz and hugs her. Now, obviously Sillabub is Griz's daughter and Jenny has become Sillabub's mom in Griz's absence. However, what I'm thinking is that Jenny and Griz are exes and Sillabub is their kitten that Jenny had to raise on her own after Griz left. Is that what they're going for? Probably not, but I don't care. Yuri for all!
Sillabub and Electra cuddle during Gus' number, and their not related in this one, so do with it what you will.
Tumble and Electra are siblings because they both have the very obvious fringe in their designs.
Tumble and Misto are a couple. I've decided this based on vibes and the Tuggoffelees being practically nothing in this.
I think Demeter and Bombalurina are TOGETHER in this one. And this is not the Demelurina brainrot talking it, because oh my god, guys, they are incapable of keeping their hands off of each other. The second Tugger's number is over, Bomba doesn't pay attention to him for even a second and goes right to comfort Demeter and stays by her side for 90% of the show. During their lines for Song of the Jellicle's Bomba wraps her hands around Demeter's waist from behind and lovingly lets her head rest on Demeter's shoulder as if, as Real put it, Demeter was pregnant with her child! And Macavity they are just so touchy with each other! They are gay! I swear they made Tugger and Bomba act like that during Tugger's number not to make people think he's straight, but to convince the audience that Bomba was!
So, I designed the album cover for the second album by The Bettlejuices, the fictional band made up of Tugger, Alonzo, Bombalurina, and Plato.
I created what would be a commemorative edition, featuring a review quote as the subtitle, and this copy is autographed by all four members. I came up with the name "Electric Caterpillar" out of nowhere and thought it would make an interesting album title.
What do you guys think the songs on the album are about?
You know, while I do think that slow very touchy-feely segment of the Jellicle Ball being a sexual event/an orgy is a valid interpretation. I also think there's something as intimate (just not sexually) and very sweet and narratively rich about the Jellicles all cuddling up and grooming each other in a big floppy pile together like that.
i love cats ocs because it feels like everyone's ocs know each other. it feels like they've all seen each other at some point. they're neighbours. they're friends. they're enemies. a real "thank god i'm the only normal one here" moment
