Personally, I hc Kiyotaka as demiromantic/demisexual (though it may be a projection as I myself am demi) and your entire analysis is interesting through that lens as well. Having gone through his life without any romantic/sexual attraction to anyone else before, suddenly developing those feelings that he’s unfamiliar with (both irl and in fiction) is already going to be weird enough and take time. His traditional values would make it even HARDER because it’s for another man on top of that (1/2)

I know I’m basically echoing what you already said, but I just think it’s an interesting second take on it. Even IF he’d found himself interested in a girl, I think it would’ve been strange new territory that he would already have trouble with. Even a simple crush on a girl at some point in his life would’ve made it easier to take in. Mondo being his very first experience with attraction whatsoever would just send him into discomfort overload and man, this relationship is gonna take TIME (2/2)

That’s an interesting addition, as I had been working on the basis that this would have been Taka’s first experience with attraction to someone else, although I hadn’t explicitly said as much. (At least, the first time he’d actually become aware of it being an attraction. It’s possible he might have have minor crushes on other people in the past, but mistaken those feelings for distant admiration/idolisation, on account of never getting close enough to those people to realise it was anything else.)

I also imagine Mondo Oowada, Ultimate Motorcycle Gang Leader being his first experience with attraction would add an extra layer of complication on top of his feelings, as that adds the whole question of what Mondo’s reputation might do to his own, and the potential fear that that image could end up preventing him from reaching his own goals. Like you say, it’s going to take time!

(Not that I blame any fic writer who wants to skip all of this and get to writing the happy boyfriends part. I did it myself in Dangan Trick. Sometimes it’s nice to imagine relationships that are nice and simple!)
