Trump, Sanders Cruise High in West Virginia Party Primaries
Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump have emerged victorious during last night’s primary polls in the race for the party nominations. Though Hilary Clinton is the likely party nominee, the Vermont Senator defied the odds to prove that it’s not yet over as he secured the Mountain State’s top Democratic votes.
Sanders polled 51.4% of the polls, gaining 120,321 votes and 16 delegates whereas Clinton got 36% with 84,176 votes, and 11 delegates. On the Republican side, Donald Trump scooped 79.6% of the votes cast and his close rival Ted Cruz, who suspended his campaign last week, got only 9%.
Sanders’ wins in Indiana and West Virginia are unlikely to change the fact that Clinton is still the favorite to clinch the Democratic nomination. Despite badly trailing front-runner Hilary Clinton, Sanders’ recent victory strengthens his argument that he should stay in the race until the end.
In his tone of defiance, Sanders remarked: "With this outcome, we have now won primaries and caucuses in 19 states,". "We are in this campaign to win the Democratic nomination and we're going to stay in the race until the last vote is cast," He added in a statement after the results were released.
While rallying in Salem, Oregon, Sanders also emphasized that he believes he is the best suitable to defeat Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee in the November general elections.
“It is not only in national polls where we defeat Donald Trump by bigger numbers than Secretary Clinton, it is state poll after state poll," Sanders emphasized as his audience cheered on. Nonetheless, he still trails Clinton in the number of delegates required to clinch the Democratic Party nod.
Donald Trump, who last week asked his supporters not to vote anymore in the party primaries, sailed to victory again in both Nebraska and West Virginia which further solidified his nomination as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
