Am I the only one actually pausing and focusing on this for the first time. I mean I have done it before but didn't read everything that's written. LIARS, TAX EVASION, UR NOT SO HOT, DON'T MENTION THEIR GOOD LOOKS.

This is a demon wall appreciation post.
Demon Wall
(Scryfall Link)
The Demon Wall is a boss in Final Fantasy IV. It reappears in a few other games. In Final Fantasy XIV it is an miniboss in an optional side dungeon and I genuinely do not understand why that's the version they went for with this card instead of the way more iconic IV, VII, or XII one.
It's not even really mechanically referencing the one from XIV, it's way closer to the one from IV or XII. There, it doesn't perform any major attack but rather slowly advances towards the party, at which point it crushes them, instantly killing everyone. This is referenced by it being unable to attack at first but much later becoming a big threat.
Would you consider the Overdrive Sin battle in FFX to be an iteration of the Demon Wall? I always like how they remix series staples.
Oh, wow, I never thought of that, but you're right! An extreme POV version where instead of the Wall inching towards you, Wall is casting gravity magic to pull you towards it!
Although now that I think on it, there was an early iteration of Sin's overdrive, in the game that gave us Gilgamesh and the Al]chemist job class...
Atomos. It disables party members individually and drags them towards it one turn at a time.
from :black101's: Mystic Knight-only FFV challenge (omg why are people such masochists i thought this was FFII for a moment bc they renamed Butz Mihnwu!)
Atomos' sprite vaguely reminds me of the FUNGAAAH! dude in FFIV that does the exact opposite, sneezing/blowing party members out of battle (kick), but that's a one-turn KO rather than a multi-turn countdown.
Who is hanging off the side of an airship like earlier Sin battles (and Bevelle's sparkly dragon, er, ah, why do I keep losing words, oh yeah, EVRAE, that guy.)
I'm with you: I love how if you look under the hood of Final Fantasy, you see the devs inventing some new mechanics, summons, objects, magic, etc for each game, but then mixing and matching and reusing them like favorite lego blocks to make subsequent builds.
It's unusual having a franchise where the "under the hood" design, not the world/characters, are what unifies all the games. But then, the very first FF was an attempt to make a simplified, one-player 3rd ed D&D simulator. The titles/worlds are the modules.
another day another commission finished! this one for a dear friend!
I'm playing the og and Sephiroth literally says "now i can create the future" and aerith says "the future doesnt just belong to you." I can't get over the fact that the clock in the temple of the ancients also can go forward in time and back in time...? This is interesting.
Yeah, I think that’s not gonna be a whole “time travel” element overall, but more like a focused time fucks with our heads while we’re in the temple only. Like, they’ll do something and then it’ll rewind or they’ll see visions of themselves before they’ve done something. It’ll be super trippy!
I mean, that whole area is insane! There’s the Escher based maze and then the weird bearded guys who are condensed cetra spirits lingering to protect the place, but don’t actually do much in the way of protecting since Sephiroth and Shinra waltz right in. Then there’s the pool that Aerith literally sticks her face into to talk to the ancients’ spirits and then there’s the random dragon waiting to eat us and a demon wall guarding the rear exit!
Done right, it’s gonna be insane! Everyone would doubt reality while in there, and it’d play up to Cloud’s unravelling psyche so well! There’s also the fact that Aerith’s distancing herself from everyone and saying no one can help her, so Cloud would be feeling more and more like a failure with every passing moment.
And did I mention the demon wall?
been thinkin about demon brick,,, he’s just a lil chalkboard baby !
I noticed something
