I'M A CHARLASTOR SHIPPER SINCE THE BEGINNING.
I was talking to a guy about Charlie and her ex-boyfriend, because he didn't know she is bisexual.
Looking for photos to show him, I saw that her ex strongly resembles her father, Lucifer, both in terms of his face and the way he dresses.
This guy tells me: "it's normal, girls look for men who look like their fathers." Erm, nope. Unless he's a Prince Charming type of father. If we're talking about abusive and absent fathers, you steer clear of guys like that.
This made me turn up my nose, because in the show, you see that Charlie is closer to her mother than her father. She always calls Lilith; she uses her father as a spare.
Which makes me think he left Charlie and Lilith long before Lilith abandoned their daughter.
Then I thought about when Alastor sang the song: "it's a little funny... you could almost call me... Dad!"
It got me thinking. I don't get along with my father; he's never been there for me, and I hate him. In a relationship, I look for a father figure who can fill that void. As Charlie, sort of.
So… they knew what they were doing with Alastor.
The meaning of those words is that Alastor defines himself as a constant presence in her life, who helps and supports her. Like a partner, like a father.
He, okay, manipulates Charlie. We all know that.
However, Charlie is often nervous and tenses her body when she's around Alastor, as if he excites her. She's bisexual.
Therefore, it could be true that she sees a semi-father figure in him. And he knows, too. AND IT'S OK.
How the fuck smart is Alastor to be able to read people like this????????
I mean… having someone who supports you, who is a reference point… and Alastor himself says "I'm your guy, your day-to-day"
Meaning: I'm the man for you, your everyday life.
The gist of the lyrics implies that Alastor is a presence Charlie can count on, and even if he's manipulating her, he could always change his mind in the future. In the end: Alastor wants a family. Alastor admires Charlie. He stays away from her in season two not because he can't stand her, but because he almost died because of her.
Um… it would be a shame not to delve deeper into this.
