POLICE AND GOVERNMENT BRUTALITY IS EVERYWHERE
Today is a third day of demonstrations in Belgrade, Serbia. The media presents this as protesting because of the announced 4-day lockdown which is not completely true. The only platform that actually informs people about what truly is going on is N1 (CNN’s channel for Balkan). These people are mad because of the dictatorship of our president, no democracy, lying about the number of people who are infected/deceased due to COVID-19 only to hold elections (and later blame and punish us for not being responsible enough when the higher numbers are nobody’s fault but the government’s), messing with students lives and not taking them seriously, the list goes on. Therefore, nobody is angry because of the coronavirus, we are angry because we are being lied to and manipulated. Enough is enough.
Now that you know why everyone is on the streets (wearing masks in case you were wondering), let me inform you a little more about the situation. The government is behind the groups of hooligans breaking into the parliament building because they need a reason to call the protests violent and for the fully equipped police to beat up innocent people. PEOPLE WHO ARE PROTESTING DON’T WANT TO FIGHT ANYONE, THE WANT TO FIGHT TOGETHER FOR JUSTICE. Gendarmes have been hitting people that weren’t causing any trouble, continued to hit them while they were on the ground, saying that it’s necessary. Cavalry chased people who were only walking. They beat up a boy riding a bike, three guys that were just sitting on a bench supporting the protest (link below), even hit a female journalist’s ass with a stick. They pepper sprayed the crowd with more than 100 canisters. WHO ARE YOU PROTECTING?! Shame on everyone working for this government because you are working against your people, against your own country, you are promoting brutality, harassing anyone who doesn’t share your opinion. Almost everyone who came outside out of dissatisfaction tonight decided to just sit down on the ground and in that way show that people who are violent are only there to give the police a reason to beat anyone. This is far from okay and we will not stop until we aren’t afraid anymore.
We want a resignation, we want professionals doing their jobs, we want to feel safe, we want to TRUST people who run our country. Police brutality is added to the things we are protesting against (which I already listed above).
Since the protests are held in other big cities and not only the capital, I would like to give a shout out to members of the police and army from Niš (Naissus) that refused to participate saying that they do not want to beat their people. We are one nation. If we lose humanity, we lose everything. We are here to fight the system, not each other.
Stay sane, smart and safe.
Hopefully the non-violent demonstration continues and actually brings change. Here’s a video of police acting violent that I mentioned before:
