The costume drama Seeds of Scarlet Longing (Chinese title 在你眉梢种红豆) is preparing for broadcast with the release of new promotional material tomorrow. Presumably the official airing date will also be announced tomorrow. 

The leads are Zheng Yecheng and  Zhao Qing, with Deng Xiaoci and Fu Dongnuan in supporting roles.

Eight episodes into Love in the Clouds I got some thoughts (tm) without knowing the source material.

First off: love the leads' dynamic.

But what got me hooked apart from them and my son Er Shiqi is Lord Hanfeng's minions. Why are most of them teenagers/young adults? (ofc, this is an idol drama, you gotta have the eye candy, but lemme overthink this)

Why are they all teenagers/ early twens? Probably because it's easier for a prince to get young people to do risky shit. But he did start 22 years earlier so where are his older minions? Did they get promoted and they lost touch? Is he into younger guys?

When Situ Ling arrived I was like what is his deal? (No lbr I was like is this someone I need to remember, bc the character dump was dumping) But with his backstory with Ming Xian known now, I am intrigued. How does a certified Ming Xian stan (bi king) end up working for the rival realm? Is he from there? (such a rebel, stanning the person who prevents you from getting the blessed rain) If not - did he go there on an undercover mission?

Also how old is he? He is younger than Ming Yi and she is 19/20 now? (calculating from her winning the hunger games at 12 and then someone else won for the first time after 7 years as the story kicks off).

I know that Lord Hanfeng got the court under his thumb but Situ Ling is ~16 years old and no one objected to him getting that position?? Ok this is immortal realm but how does aging work there anyway? How long is an immortal year? Why am I even asking, it's not that deep. xD

Also he is friends with the fox lady, how did that come around?

And then there is Yan Xiao. First I thought oh a regular Quan Yilun shaped minion, running errands for his master but he actually became a physician to increase his social status to marry the princess? And he is working for her uncle of all people because the drama of it all? And they are exes in a love/hate relationship? He is still pining for her and she moved on for political reasons? Sign. Me. Up!

Then there is golden retriever Meng Yanqiu who is just there for the vibes?? Like he is friends with the princess and hangs with her enemy because Yan Xiao hangs with him or what? Will we see him do a big sacrifice in the last act once the situation gets into his retriever brain? Imma stick around to find out.

Oh there is a middle aged man (apart from Hou Zhao, rest in pieces), he just shape-shifted into a manhua hottie. Gotta have a cunning fox in a fantasy drama.

And then Xun Ming randomly falls for Ming Yi's bestie?! (to lure her out??) Ok I gotta go and watch today's episodes. Tks for sticking around and see you in the tag!
