I took a break from drawing Free Magic creatures last night to do a sketch of how I imagine the layered tunics they wear in Belisaere might look. I really love the idea of people using color-coded clothing to identify each other, and unlike Clariel, I would have loved to have a lesson about what colors go with all the guilds! I also rather liked Denima, even though she was only in like, three scenes, so I made up some headcannons about her while drawing: Altough she presents with the colors of the Vintners since that is the guild of higher precedence, she actually fits better with her mother's guild, the Upholders. She has a special talent for embriodery, and uses it to decorate her own tunics. She has gotten in trouble before for decorations that were too flashy or not conforming to her guild colors, so she developed a more subdued but impressively intricate style. Although she is not a particularly strong Charter mage, she makes good use of the magic in her art, and has invented some unique methods for doing so. After getting married in Belisaere, her and Belatiel move to the Abhorsen's House, and although no one (except Mogget) now remembers the artist, some of her work has survived the ages and can still be found on clothing and furnature there.
