Denver is known for its historic neighborhoods filled with red brick homes built a hundred years ago. Living in Hilltop, a relatively new neighborhood by comparison, I didn’t know we had any mid century historic homes just around the corner. This cubist international style home has some great facade compositions of ribbon windows, horizontally linked clerestory windows and glass curtain walls. Hope they’re insulated in this weather. . The city is beautiful at night. You can walk down 16th street and while many businesses are still closed, you can capture beautiful views on daily walks of sanity. I truly love Downtown Denver and the feeling it gives me to walk through the city and it’s great architecture. Did you know the clock tower building on 16th street is part of the former Daniels & Fisher department store? In 1910, it was the tallest building between the Mississippi River and the state of California at the time of construction! Dad’s house started as a 1955 green brick split-level ranch house with long stretching flat roofs. To this, he added everything that is clad in cedar and stucco - a dynamic front entry and living room; a stair tower that connects the garden level and enlarged garage, and the master bedroom with an office outpost; and a guest bedroom on top of the old roof. It’s a composition of shapes, volumes, planes and materials. .
