Hostel Fish Open Mic

Dudes, if you missed Open Mic at Hostel Fish on Saturday, you missed a hell of a show. The bill was full, with an exceptional lineup of musicians. It was the first open mic we’ve had since I’ve been back, and I have to tell ya, I was very encouraged by the turnout. Everyone enjoyed a brewski or cocktail on the house, and remarked about the unique performance space. There truly is a living-room type comfort to our lounge, and the long room and tall ceilings make for good acoustics. Thank you to everyone who keep Hostel Fish Open Mic afloat!

Just a’jammin...

A special thanks to all of the Hostel Fish guests and Denver locals who participated in last Saturday’s open mic- it was kind of a special one. We had 7 performers, several of whom had been there before, as well as a couple of newcomers, who are always welcome. Andy -a buddy of mine and a very talented musician- was there for the 4th or 5th time. He told me how rough of a time he’d been having recently, and the reason he’d missed the last two open mics. His performance was REAL…a mainline connection to the human condition; that’s all I can say. I, and the rest of the Hostel Fish crew, certainly send condolences. Music can be a great tool...

Overall, it was a wonderful night of music. Drew Breder brought his 5 string electric bass, and elaborate pedal board, and looped together an atmospheric sound; “trippy” as he put it. That was a new type of performance for Hostel Fish’s open mic, and it was quite cool. Later in the night after everyone had performed, several of us started jamming and bouncing ideas off of each other. There were a few times that we stumbled upon a really sweet groove…and that’s when it all gets really cool, in my opinion.

I hope we have an equally awesome line up of musicians next time, and the same great audience. Thank you to all!
