Thinking about how Fred was always fighting for some cause when he wa younger and staging protests and sit ins but never got in real trouble bc he generally had a good reputation plus Artie was well respected in the community so the most Fred would get from authority was like a slap on the wrist. But then there was fp who seemed to always be in trouble even if he didn’t actually do anything wrong and fp just kind of accepted it at a certain point cuz it was clear shit wasn’t changing but Fred would get so upset about it

the worst times were when fred would inadvertently get fp in trouble cuz they would do some stupid shit together (shoplifting tresspassing joyriding drinking partying whatever....sometimes it was fps idea but often it was fred) or he’d muscle fp into joining whatever revolution he currently had going on and when shit inevitably went south fred was the one getting “warnings” and having his dad called at most while they’d actually arrest fp on sight or at least give him a record or slap him with some fine he couldn’t pay and more than once they were in a situation where fp was facing real consequences while fred just got politely escorted home and warned not to do it again and of course fred would go kicking and screaming and it would fire him up even more and he’d be ranting and raving about how it was unfair but at the end of the day fp was still in shit and he wasn’t... and so eventually he had to learn to just involve fp less to protect him but it took him awhile to understand that
don’t get me wrong fred never once abandoned fp or let him take the blame but no adults were really interested in listening to fred when the whole situation seemed so cut and dried even artie who was convinced fp was the bad influence on his kid and leading fred down this dark road.....
