So I made a little spell jar for my anxiety and depression. I thought I’d share it with y'all. Two disclaimers:
1) Magic doesn’t replace medicine or therapy. You should absolutely go see a doctor or therapist for mental health issues. And medication will be much better for your mental health in the long run if your doctor decides it’s necessary. Remember, back in ye olde days herbology and other magical studies were cutting edge medicine. To think that witchcraft means shunning all modern advances is to ignore the very history of witchcraft, as the og witches were all about using new information and science. Utilize non-magical resources along with spells.
2) My style of spell work relies on overkill. Why use one herb for your problem when you could use eight? As such, my ingredient list gets kind of ridiculous. Don’t feel like you have to use all of these. Especially considering that I myself just scan through my herb cupboard and just use whatever I have. If I don’t have something a spell calls for, I leave it out. Your intent is way more important than the ingredients so it’s all groovy kids.
So here’s what I used. (In basically this order, I layer salt, oils, ground/small herbs, and then larger herbs and crystals. This works well for both utilitarian purposes and aesthetic.)
Salt: triple power, because I’m extra like that. I used black salt (made with sage for extra pop), sea salt, and pink Himalayan salt.
Essential oils: again, overkill. If you don’t have all these or you think I’m being a bit ridiculous here, please feel free to cut down on these. I used lemon, lime, grapefruit, sweet orange, clary sage, lavender, peppermint, bergamot, and marjoram.
Herbs & Stuff: I used vanilla extract, rosemary, sage, thyme, cloves, allspice, lavender flowers, chamomile, rose petals, bay leaves, pine needle, and nutmeg.
Crystals: Amethyst, clear quartz, citrine, lapis lazuli, obsidian (these are what I had small pieces of. There are definitely more options for crystals out there if you want to substitute anything.)
One I put everything in, I sealed it with gold wax. As I did this, I thought about what I wanted this spell jar to do and then I asked the deities to bless it. I do this by passing the bottle through the smoke of my snuffed out deity candles at the end of my spell. Ritual and ceremony aren’t really my forte, so all I can really advise you in that regard is to do what feels right or just sub in whatever you normally do for consecration and whatnot.
Tips: if you’re going to be carrying this around with you, I would seal the top with glue. Also, dipping the top of the spell jar in wax would be sturdier than pouring the wax on the top like I did. (But I’m all about that drip aesthetic so I make do.) If you want the spell jar to continue to look the way you created it, pack that sucker full. Empty space is just an opportunity for all the ingredients to get jumbled.
