First date blues aka what happens when you’re both geniuses with anxiety

Thinking about the “in-laws” for Azuide~

For Ortho and Azul, I think Ortho initially has a bad impression of him. He doesn’t try to break him and Idia up or anything- he’s really happy his brother has a partner, actually, but he’s nervous about Azul using Idia or breaking his heart. Definitely gives one hell of a shovel talk. I do think he warms up to him eventually though- they’re never best friends or anything, but he respects Azul’s affection for his brother. On Azul’s end, I think he’s generally pretty fond of Ortho and finds him endearing, especially his “bad habits” like blackmailing people to get what he wants. Maybe a bad influence because of that… I think their relationship is a sort of working respect at first. I don’t think Azul dotes on or babies Ortho- he probably treats him as closer to a peer. They work together well, especially when trying to get Idia to take care of himself and I think they end up collaborating a lot on that matter, making them somewhat close.

For Idia and the Tweels, though? Idia’s already scared of the guys and the shovel talk they give definitely doesn’t help. He gets worried about them potentially bullying Azul, especially because he’s not familiar with social norms enough to distinguish friendly teasing and cruelty. I think that the Tweels are mostly just amused by him and his reactions though. They probably find a shared interest in keeping Azul safe and caring about him, but I don’t think he’s ever close with either of them.

I have a couple different scenarios for how Azul and Idia get together, since Idia is so passive and Azul has no self confidence, which means it’s basically impossible for either of them to confess normally.

1) Marriage of convenience. The Jupiter family wants to marry Idia off so he can have a heir in the event of his death, which they are obviously concerned about for various reasons. So Idia needs to find someone tolerable who’s willing to marry him, like, right now. And they have to be willing to endure a loveless marriage of convenience at the bottom of the ocean with their only consolation being the money and power they’ll get. So, greedy and willing to abandon everything for a chance at power, and tolerable to Idia. Yeah, so he and Azul get fake married, except they never divorce or anything. There’s no grand confession, but they’re happy together and that’s enough for them. (Fake dating isn’t normally my thing but it goes hard for these two 🔥🔥🔥)

2) Azul and Idia want to up the stakes at the board game club and start making bets. Things escalate, and by the time they’re both graduated, they’re in a relationship that definitely started as a bet/dare. Never ending gay chicken. They’re 80 and still act like it’s a bet, but that’s only because neither of them want to admit they lost. Honestly, FWB stuff with them is really fitting.

3) Azul and Idia just… accidentally start dating. Just progressively getting more affectionate with each other and never talk about it ever. They never officially say anything, but they also make out on the reg.

Either way, if they get together, there’s never going to be any confessions until after they’re already dating, minimum. They will literally use any way possible to get together without admitting they’re in love, if they even know it at the time.
