Ludwig von Langenmantel (German, 1854-1922) Der Reigen, n.d.
Arthur SCHNITZLER (1862-1931) in Stockholm on 17th May 1923 - frame of the only film on which Arthur Schnitzler can be seen - das einzige Filmdokument, das Arthur Schnitzler zeigt. Arthur Schnitzler - Austrian author and dramatist - one of the most important authors of Vienna 1900 / Wien 1900. Stanley Kubrick filmed Arthur Schnitzler’s “Traumnovelle” “Eyes Wide Shut” with Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise (1999) and moved the story to contemporary New York.
Asta Nielsen led to ruin by Conrad Veidt in Der Reigen, 1920.
You can watch a selection of clips from the film on YouTube here, and there’s a poorer quality, but full-length copy up on veidtveidtveidt.
God was Conrad Veidt obnoxiously extra on Der Reigen. Parenthesis mouth man.
This isn't even the craziest expression he does, it was just the one screencap I took (from that Youtube video, quality is much better on that clip selection).
(Asta Nielsen very good though)
Conrad Veidt, that master of subtle and nuanced acting, is killed by a long-suffering Asta Nielsen (whom he’s corrupted and seduced and prostituted and basically screwed over in all kinds of ways until he gets what’s coming to him) in Richard Oswald’s Der Reigen (1920).
