DERICK MELANDER
The Ocean is the Underlying Basis for Every Wave, 2008
Abstract sculptures from carefully folded and stacked second-hand clothing. The garments are sorted by color, forming walls, columns & large-scale enclosures.
I’ve been following Derick Melander on Instagram all this year and adore his stacks of second-hand clothing. This practice appeals to my attraction to layering and also the nostalgia captured in old clothing. I like that he gives arrangement to these cast offs.

Artist: Derick Melander.
An approach of the art of accumulation a poetic way. Amassing or gathering clothes and/or fabric items for the express purpose of creating a joyful and contemplative environment. This is an accumulation that stands against the consumption ideas of our society.
