Term and flag coining

Dermaphillia

Dermaphilia is the attraction to taxidermy and/or the art process of making taxidermy.

Composed of the Greek words "derma" meaning hide, and "philia" meaning love and/or affection. The Greek letter "γ" (or gamma) is the code/ symbol for this paraphillia.

Flags have two separate (but very similar) designs, and I put in a version both with and without the letter code. Also put in a version with just straight horizontal stripes, as I know some folk prefer that :]

The attraction itself can be of any nature, sexual, romantic, platonic, or otherwise. It's also not exclusive to any specific type of preservation. Soft and hard mounts, pelt preservation, bone preservation, freeze dried specimens, and wet specimens all fall under the definition.

The grayish, topmost green stands for the attraction one feels towards taxidermy. The lightest green stand for the attraction to the process of taxidermy. The white represents attraction without harm and ethical practices of preservation. The lighter brown is for giving an animal life atter death, and the darker brown represents the death itself.

We understand that folk may have varying opinions on taxidermy, but the stance of this flag is that since taxidermy is more an animal product (like a leather jacket or a fur hat) than a real animal,and cannot be harmed,it is not harmful to act apon itself. Unless one is acting inappropriately with a corpse or body in the act of creating the taxidermy itself, we think you can engage with taxidermy and it is not pro-contact. Any and every term coined on this blog is anti-abuse and follows the NO-ACT movements stances.

l've actually been wanting to coin this for a looong while as it seems like the community's had a need for it. Dermaphilia seems to fall into a space of not-quite-necrophilla but not-quite-zoophillia either,so I just got tired of it and threw together a new term. Very excited to share and use this, so yippee?

(please ignore the fact that she's missing a foot, my dog got out around a month ago and ate it, I'm still shopping for one to "replace it with". I'm quite upset about it... At least it's not severe damage, I can fix it, but it just felt so disrespectful when I was trimming her stump. I'm honestly pissed at the person I bought her pelt from as well, because they didn't skin her paws properly and I could literally tell it was going to deteriorate when I got it so I got an impromptu paw carving sesh forced upon me. They also have a genuinely terrible paw skinning technique in general. They also failed to list multiple defects in the pelt so yeah. Whatever, I love her, she's beautiful.)
