She’d heard that there was another child of Zeus here at HI-6. She wasn’t totally sure who they were or what they looked like. She’d just heard the name ‘Deryn’ and that they were partnered with Sam. That meant they were probably friends with the son of Ares. She wanted to meet them. Not just because of Sam, but she’d never really had a chance to get close to one of her half-siblings before. All the ones she’d met were arrogant and self-important.

She didn’t care much for people like that. She tried to avoid them to the best of her ability.

She knew little of Deryn. She wasn’t totally sure where she should go to search for the demigod. But there were a few places she could think of. Child of Zeus, likely fond of flying. She could start in the courtyard. Or she could grab an apple and just sit in the cafeteria. Most people went there eventually. She could look for someone that has the familial traits common to the children of Zeus. In other words, look for a person with startlingly blue eyes.

Shouldn’t be too hard. Her eyes were similar in colour. At least, she thought was something children of Zeus had in common. She could be wrong. Honestly, she didn’t pay that much attention to that sort of thing. Take Sam for example. The son of Ares was not that tall (certainly he was not short either), but he was of average height and more slender build. The opposite to most children of Ares that she’d seen.

In other words, she’d probably have better luck making a sign that said ‘Deryn’ and walking around until someone said “hey that’s me”. Sighing to herself, Ellie went to the cafeteria, grabbing an apple and tossing it in her hand absently. She probably wasn’t going to eat it... She also grabbed a bottle of water and took up a seat at an empty table.

She twirled the air around the apple, making it spin on the table. It was an amusing trick. She often used something similar to distract others from her, questionable, eating habits. If she could distract them long enough with her “magic” tricks, maybe they wouldn’t notice that she was playing with her food and not eating it.

Sam grinned as they walked through the mall. A mission, at the mall, with Deryn, it was almost like a date. The last time anyone fought a chimera it was a small dog. “I say we check a pet store. If I was a big monster who disguised as a small dog the first thing I would do is liberate the rest of the small dogs.”

Maybe that was the vegan talking he did know a lot of useless fact to shout at people who did eat meat. He wasn’t going to shove his beliefs down anyone's throat. It was some of the facts that people who became vegan used to stop themselves from eating otherwise. 

“You know... If we weren’t hunting some whacked out monster on steroids, this would be close to a date. We should eat after we’re done here. If we aren’t hurt or dying. Ace said something about the only person who ever defeated one was Bellerophon and he had a Pegasus.” Deryn would probably need to fly to actually kill this thing, and given Sam’s fear. Deryn would be the one killing. Which was also super hot and Sam didn’t mind it. 

“She said don’t get bit and don’t burn to death either. Words of wisdom to live by.” Sam laughed slightly and looked around the mall. “We should so get something to eat, I think I saw an ice cream store back there.” Not that he could have milk, but if they had anything vegan friendly he’d jump at the opportunity. Or he’d cheat, Ice cream was good and he was only a man.

Sam and Deryn as promised went to their fear based workshop on the third floor of the training facility. Having done the workshop before they worked together quickly, but like always the the last two were always the hardest. 

Sam clenched his teeth seeing the gun on the table and his mother in the chair. Killing his mother, that was his biggest fear, he couldn’t stand the thought of losing her. And by his own hand, that made it worse. 

He picked up the gun and ejected the magazine seeing the bullets. Pushing the magazine back in he heard the gun click, this was him stalling. He pulled off the safety and pulled back the slide loading the the cartridge into the firing chamber. 

“My mother’s name is Evelyn Leslie Sansby, she’s a model and goes by Eve. She raised me with every moral I have. And every time we do this, I have to not only hurt her, but kill her.” Sam paused and brought the gun up pointing it at his mother’s head. 

“And I can never look.” Sam turned his head closing his eyes and pulled the trigger and heard his mother fall. At least this would be done soon, they still had to go see Ivan.

Sam sighed, he’d worked out, showered and now finally got to enjoy breakfast. Toast with refried beans, and avocados; with an apple. The breakfast of champions. He’d just sat down in the cafeteria with his food, water, and soy milk with some recovery protein mixed in ready to enjoy his meal. 

He raised the toast to his mouth and took a bite savoring every last flavor. He hadn’t ever broken the habit of eating avocados, it truly was a Californian thing. Sam put the bread down and picked up the apple taking a bite, this was the best.

Sam knew this would happen. Every single time he even thought about going back to testing with Deryn he got agitated. Deryn knew all of his fears but he didn’t know why Sam had those fears. Although Sam assumed his last two were a bit self-explanatory. Sam clenched his teeth sending his fist a little too hard into the punching bag and watched the tethers on the bag break as the 100 pound heavy bag fell to the ground.

He didn’t want to go back into the test without Deryn knowing why he had these fears. Last time had almost been a disaster, Sam still remembered the beach. He remembered every moment, and he needed them to be clear headed. That way they didn’t spend nearly as long in the test as they did last time. Sam assumed that Deryn didn’t want to spend a lot of time in the test as well. It was designed to make you as freaked out as possible. He still didn’t understand how it managed to pull Pirates Cove from his sub conscious. He didn’t even remember that.

Sam picked up the bag and leaned it against the wall putting another bag onto the chain. He’d have to confront Deryn at some point. But, Sam would rather have the conversation when he was already tired and sore than if he was agitated and ready to hit something. He’d promised he’d never hurt Deryn and he meant it. Sam looked to the bag already feeling his knuckles bruising from hitting the last one so hard. He wasn’t tired yet, which meant he had to keep going, and keep ignoring Deryn.

The other Demigod was going to be pissed at him.
