Normally, he didn't invite those from the Clave over for drinks. Nor did he invite them over for idle chitchat. If there was something he needed to be made aware of he was certain they would send a message to him. Instead, they sent over a shadowhunter he'd had previous dealings with.  It wasn't his preferred choice but at least he could talk with Alexander. Unlike his parabatai, who seemed a bit more reckless than most. If anything he was reminded of another Herondale. Unfortunately, that was another lifetime ago and it seemed as if this conversation was far more important than his own memories. If Magnus could get Alexander to listen to him. "Maybe I shouldn't have  given you that drink if you can't focus on our conversation."

Out of everyone it had been his parabatai that was there for him when things went to hell. Through thick and thin they were brothers, they were family, and nothing was ever going to change that. Valentine had tried, the Clave had as well, but he would always be there for Alec. If there was one thing that meant the world to him it was their bond as parabatai. The two of them risked a lot because of it and he knew that he could've lost him after Alec thought he could track him down. But Jace had been there, he'd called to him, he'd begged him to come back to him. He never wanted either of them to find out the pain that came with losing a parabatai. Somehow he just needed to get that through to Alec.

     the former Nephilim raises an eyebrow, gaze sweeping down the length of the other. his glamor is strong over his skin, concealing the scars of his burned out runes. even without them, the resemblance is undeniable. if he didn’t know better, he’d be concerned that this was some demonic work, some enchantment sent to get under his skin but no, he knows the other by name & reputation alone. it’s not just a FACE they share, after all.

     ‘ Alexander Lightwood, ’ he says slowly, feeling her magic swirl in his veins before he moves to stand. ‘ I was told the head of the New York Institute may have need of me, but this is unexpected. what can I do for you? ’
