Illustrations for RTE Toolkit
Just when I had been thinking that the blog hasn’t been updated for a while, Aparna
Ranjan, (a wonderful person and designer I interned with) shared photos from
a project I had the opportunity to illustrate for.
The 'Right to Education' implementation kit was conceptualized by Azim
Premji University to aid RTE awareness, and for assessment and monitoring
of a schools' compliance to the Act.
The kit consists of primers that demystify the law, explain the entitlements under the
RTE act, enable teachers and students to actively engage with the concept and encourage
the responsible use of these rights.
The images attempt to depict an inclusive classroom and represent intangible qualities like
freedom, equality and dignity idea using simple, child-friendly metaphors.
Back then, I was not too happy with the way the illustrations turned out...
...but the way they have been put together in this very nice and
approachable layout designed by Aparna, I think they look quite okay.
Also, it felt real good to hear that the kit has been successfully rolled out
in about a 1000 schools across Karnataka since 2013. So, yay!
