No Sleep Till Brooklyn: The New York Times Tours Mike D’s New Home

In the Style section of the New York Times today, Julie Earle-Levine explores Mike D’s townhouse in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. We had the privilege of photographing the house for our book, Design Brooklyn (Abrams/Stewart, Tabori & Chang, October 2013) on a glorious day last September. The interiors shone—many of them decorated with work by Brooklyn designers. At one point during the morning, I sat down to interview Mike for the foreword to Design Brooklyn, and his words on design and this particular moment in Brooklyn introduce the book perfectly. We look forward to sharing this and much more with you in the fall. Check out the New York Times article here.
Above photograph: ElasticCo’s draperies glow in the parlor windows. Breuckelen Berber provided the 1970 Beni Oaurain rug from Morocco, and other pieces such as the Martin Baas coffee table and chairs by Patricia Urquiola fit right in, each with its own distinct sense of an artist’s hand. Mike D designed the light fixture with interior designer Paula Rodriguez.

We are excited to announce Design Brooklyn: Renovation, Restoration, Innovation, Industry, coming October 2013 from Abrams/Stewart, Tabori & Chang. We will continue to post new Brooklyn design happenings here on the blog but wanted to give you a sneak peek at the cover, now that it’s up on the Abrams website.
Our book’s team, including myself and photographer Michel Arnaud, spent a year researching residences, public spaces, restaurants, and parks to create a book that captures the exceptional design work catapulting out of the borough.
