Working on my #designertoyworldcup entry reminded me how much I enjoy customizing, rather than just sculpting from scratch. Modifying and painting an existing sculpture is really exciting... and it really inspires me to create other original stuff by giving me new ideas or reminding me of old ones. At #fivepointsfest I frequently felt a little jealous of artists who cast their toys and then painted them, or people like @jaykblu who made plain bases for DIY. Anyway, this culminated in me deciding to make my own base, which I’ll customize myself and also probably sell blank for DIY. Not positive yet, but the project is exciting to me... and even though I’m still on my short post-show hiatus, I’ve been cheerfully working on this figure. I’m trying to make choices that will leave it more open for customization, like the area for the eyes being undefined sculpturally so that any shape or style can be painted... and lots of flat areas where detail can be painted or sculpted on. This is the ugly, lumpy work-in-progress stage... and the hood will be up once I sculpt it... but I feel really enthused about this project and I wanted to share it with you!
