Inner Life
Friday Feature
Inspiring a curiosity of history and the passage of time, Italian design group, Nucleo, entwines the old with the new, the rough with the polished and the natural with the artificial.
Nucleo’s Lapislazuli
The collective team of four artists creates through thoughtful innovation. It explores the effects of materials and unique interminglings on the architectonic form. The objective is to connect art with design and to make a sense of new past.
Nucleo’s resin furniture pieces for the Ammann Gallery were recently exhibited at Design Miami 2015. What extraordinary and timeless creations they are. Extraordinary, because of their tactile and luminous qualities that coexist in one form. Timeless, because the past is the inner essence of the future.
‘The Souvenir of the Last Century Bench’, epoxy resin and antique wood bench
Old found pieces of furniture are cast and preserved in epoxy resin and become the inner life of new treasures. The casting process, in and of itself, is part of an unpredictable art form creating unique bubbles and colours within the resin.
‘Souvenir of the Last Century Ladder’, epoxy resin and antique wood ladder
The most brilliant examples of this collection are new archetypes of semi-precious stones. Layered with varied pigments, many resin pieces are broken and recast to create the look of geodes containing fossils and colourful crystal structures.
‘Lapizlazuli Stone Fossil’, Limited edition, epoxy resin, wood, pigment
‘Amethyst Stone Fossil’, Limited edition, epoxy resin and pigments
Nucleo is a creative force synonymous for research, innovation and introspection. It encases the past into the future and the art into the design.
