TEKUNIDUA TEKUNIDUA is an apartment living project inspired by Asian architecture. Located in a busy area of Kuta, Bali, this project skilfully reused reclaimed natural materials from the original warehouse on the site. The use of reclaimed and recycled materials helped to significantly reduce the project’s budget and carbon footprint. Test Press⁣ 20 years of Student Publications, 1999-2019⁣ Available at www.draw-down.com⁣ ⁣ A catalog for the 2019 exhibition of student publications from the archive of Dutch designer, collector, and teacher Henk Groenendijk. Produced by students of the #GerrittRietveldAcademie, Amsterdam, over the past twenty years, Groenendijk's collection is a byproduct of many years of #teaching, and balances on the fine line between the classroom and the world beyond. The work highlights a transition from what in the late 90s was referred to as #DutchDesign — an increasingly international and open direction removed from an imposed national style. Made up of almost 500 #publications (many produced uniquely in or in small print runs), the collection reflects a large variety of methods, aesthetics, and topics—including language, #typography and contemporary #visualculture. Boraatii Stool Ethiopian-American artist and industrial designer, Jomo Tariku, was fascinated with the eclectic art, souvenirs and furniture pieces his father collected during their life in Ethiopia. After studying in America and completing his thesis on contemporary African furniture, he went on to form a professional career creating a new design language of modern African-themed furniture. One of his more popular pieces, the ‘Boraatii Stool’, took its form from the headrests design found in the Oromia region of Ethiopia which is used to protect elaborate hairstyles while asleep.
