He shakes his head and Impa grins. “So it is mine to share with you both. The pass bought us an extra day to enjoy the festival. The warriors will be eager to test their skills against the legendary Hero, but don’t worry, I’ve asked them to allow you to rest.”

Link lifts his eyebrows at her.

“Unless you wish to spar—”

“No. Thank you,” Link says, and then the tension she hadn’t noticed was there leaves his shoulders so rapidly, it looks like he loses a full inch of height. Impa wonders briefly if he even likes to fight. She’s seen how easy he makes it look, how he moves in between seconds, bending time itself without breaking a sweat.

Talent can easily be mistaken for pleasure.

“Want me to take the Sword?” Impa offers.

Link laughs and gestures it is time to follow after Zelda. The Princess stands at the base of the stairs that lead up to the Town Hall, accompanied by the village Elder and three Sheikah warriors.

I really, really love this fic.

I knew I wanted the write an impa POV fic after playing age of calamity. Not because I loved her characterization, but because I was obsessed with the potential there. Impa is always an older, wiser character, like what we get in botw. Even in OoT and SS, she's mature. Experienced. In AoC, we see how young she was...how, arguably, underprepared she was for destiny to come knocking. It just reinforced for me how unawares Calamity Ganon caught them. I view Impa as a soul caught in the Hyrule reincarnation loop, too. And in order for her to serve her purpose, she needs to have wisdom/ experience to share with Zelda and/or Link and in AoC, we see she's really not there yet. What she is, is a friend. Another young person trying to figure destiny out. Which I saw as RIPE with potential to explore not only in her individual friendships with Zelda and Link, but also as a witness to their blossoming relationship. Something the Impa sees, cultivates over and over and over again.
