I'm so sorry I had this in the drafts since November and forgot to finish it 😭 But thanks for the ask, it is very much appreciated! Clyde: "Why would I be? He knows that if he tries to harm me, he'll never see the light of day again."

(Clyde would say no, never. Which is odd, because the very first thing Eldwin did was try to kill him lol, but Clyde is just that confident in the power he holds over Eldwin. And as time progressed, all this time Eldwin could have easily harmed him, but he never has.)

Nels: "Yes. One wrong move, he could kill me before I could react. I'd be foolish not to scared of him. I can never let my guard down."

Mordwen: "No."

Jowan: "Sometimes. I know that if it wasn't for Clyde, and the rest of them, he'd happily murder me, and he wouldn't make it quick. I've seen what he can do. But there's just something so fascinating about him, and his compliance... all bark and no bite. Still, I can't really take chances, so I keep a close eye on him when he's with me."

Desmeirth: "I was. I still am, sometimes, though I try not to show that. I don't think he'd hurt anyone, not anymore. But sometimes the things he says, the look in his eye... It can be unnerving. And when he's in a bad mood, it feels like treading on eggshells."

Ancassius: "Nah. Don't get me wrong, I know what he's capable of. But I know he has a good heart, and sure, he likes to be difficult, but if he really wanted us gone, I wouldn't even be able to talk to you."

For Desme: Something beautiful. Something eternal. There is no feeling like the love the holy mother has for all Aeltaeon. It is warmth, it is peace.

I really love the contrast between Eldwin and Desme. One revered as the picture of holiness, the other reviled as sin incarnate…

I really want to do like. a fic or something showing that, perhaps Desme going through all their motions, being practically worshipped, soft smile and gentle movements, constantly praised and held on a pedestal, literally chosen by a goddess, embodying the kindness and love of their religion While at the same time, in a different part of the country, Eldwin is being violently abused on holy ground, in the name of these gods. Lashing out and cursing, fear manifesting as anger, chained up and covered in blood, while drenched in holy water, loud voices yelling at him the same prayer that Desme is softly speaking to the awe of her worshippers so far away…

AI-less Whumptober day three: "Please don't leave me!"

Desmeirth whump Desmeirth whump Desmeirth whump!!

CW: Child whump, idk how old Desmeirth is here, probably like 8-12?Also I wouldn't call this religious whump because this is just one person being an asshole, but note that "sister" and "mother" here are religious terms, not Desmeirth's actual family.

(Another note: Desmeirth is Destrian, I changed the name!)

"I'm sorry I'm sorry, please!" Desmeirth cried, as they struggled to keep up with the woman's long strides. Her fingers dug painfully into their wrist.

"We have been through this time and time again. Why is not getting into your head!?" Sister dragged them through the hall, downstairs to the crypt. She opened the heavy door, and Desmeirth whimpered. He dug in his heels.

"Please, sister I'm sorry-"

"Sorry isn't good enough." She grabbed his horns, still small but large enough for her to grip, and he yelped, automatically reaching to pull her hands away.

She threw him with enough force that he tumbled to the floor, narrowly avoiding smashing his face. Her shadow loomed through the crack in the door as she began to pull it closed.

"Reflect. Clear your mind. You must become the master of your own self, or you will fail the task our Mother has granted you." Sister's voice rang through the icy air.

Tears welled in Desmeirth's eyes. "Don't leave me, please! Please don't leave me here!" Xyr voice cracked.

And the stone door closed with a grating sound, plunging Desmeirth into darkness.

Snowman: What is your character's favorite thing to do when it's cold out? How do they feel about cold weather?

Snowman: What is your character's favorite thing to do when it's cold out? How do they feel about cold weather?

Eldwin hates cold weather. The harvesting of his aether leaves him always feeling cold, unable to warm himself up and relying on external sources. Not to mention it makes old injuries act up.

So his favourite thing to do when it's cold is stay inside with a crackling fire (which can also be a bit iffy, because he has fire related trauma, but he's usually okay with fireplaces and well, needs must) lots of blankets, hot drinks and kitty cuddles. If the cat doesn't get in the way, he'll spend the day drawing and reading after some form of exercise, if he's able. (He learns not to beat himself up over it when he can't)

Ancassius also isn't fond of cold weather. He likes to spend his winters in a more tropical climate. When he doesn't, he'll try to make the best of it; he'll enjoy the markets for the winter merriment festival. Cold weather is an excuse to drink hot, spiced wine. Will drag Eldwin out too because You cannot spend all winter indoors, it's not that bad once you get out there.

Desmeirth likes the cold well enough. She doesn't really struggle with cold weather. If it snows, building a snowman would be fun, among other things they didn't get to do much as a child. And ice skating! He'll teach Eldwin ice skating, grab some hot drinks from the market, and then spend the night cosy at home.

Present: What kinds of gifts does your character appreciate? What is the best gift they've actually gotten (for any occasion)?

Eldwin likes practical gifts. More of his favourite good-quality pencils and/or paper, some nice ink, blankets he'll never say no too, as mentioned he's always cold lol. Enchanted warming stones or jewellery would be great. And then cool magic objects, rare artefacts and stuff.

Ancassius will appreciate any gift tbh. Self care and beauty products, practical items, flashy jewellery... he's easy to please. Best thing is probably an enchanted bag that's a small leather pouch, but is endless; anything that fits in the pouch by width will sit in a little pocket dimension within the bag. Was a gift from a foreign noble after Cass did them a favour.

Desmeirth doesn't really like getting presents, as she's used to receiving hundreds of "gifts" and offerings a day - nothing actually meant for her, all used as an act of devotion. And given the minimalist lifestyle she's meant to lead, she doesn't get to keep anything herself; even the jewellery and expensive fabrics she wears are in the name of the goddess.

From a close friend however, they'd like something practical, relating to something they need or want to do, like jewellery crafting tools, crystals, notebooks and ink. However a useless, but cute, little trinket would also be much loved.

Cigarettes; he favours no particular brand, just whichever he can get. Usually cheap.

A mini first aid kit; bandages, needle and thread, an antiseptic; no real pain relief, but a soothing potion specifically for his throat

A sketchbook, complete with a few different pencils

Desmeirth:

A carry-size copy of the Holy Scripture given to them by a High Priestess. It's one of the most valuable things they own.

Their own foraging guide, with pictures they drew

A drawing given to her by her little sister, many years ago

Desmeirth is not allowed to look upset, or angry, or even overly happy. They must look carefully neutral, or maintain a pleasant, graceful smile. They mustn't speak or laugh too loudly, and they must speak clearly.

They are trained in healing magic, naturally, but also with weapons! They were granted a few years to travel Aenora on a "spiritual journey" learning about the country they live in and the people within it, helping people along the way, and honing all their skills. They enjoy this! They are still revered, as a regular cleric if nothing else, people respect the ones who can literally channel the divine power to save their lives, but it's nothing close to the total worship they grew up with. So they don't really want to go home, and are putting it off for as long as possible.

8. How does your OC talk/what does your OC’s voice sound like?

They're very softly spoken, and make sure to always speak clearly, perfectly enunciating their words. Leans masc. They're really nice to listen to, would have made great audiobooks or narration lol

15. What was your OC’s childhood like?

Complicated. It was strict. Peaceful. They grew up fairly isolated from the rest of the world, even from their own clan, in the temple. They were chosen by the goddess from a young age, so temple life is really all they know. They still see their family sometimes, but they are very much living different lives. Desmeirth was chosen to be a servant of this goddess, (and I do need a better title because "servant" sounds... 'low-class' but it's a highly esteemed position! It's a great honour, making them very close to the gods, and it means they'll take over the temple one day as a High Priest/ess)

(High Priestess being the highest religious position, the one in direct contact with the gods themselves. I'll have to make an in depth post at some point. They're usually women, but they don't have to be. Nedros, the sea god, usually has men as High Priests, so it depends on the temple really. Or maybe I'll come up with another rank and Desmierth will be above the High Priestess, it's still a work in progress :P)

Anyway

It was a life of constant, strict teaching, learning the religion and history, learning to be humble and patient and kind; they serve not just the goddess, but the world. It's a highly respected position as I said, but they must live a simple, modest life. They don't get their own life. They belong to the world.

They were lonely, growing up. There were a few kids around, orphans mostly, or "sisters" in training, but they were busy too, and even when they were free Desmeirth was not permitted to play with them. They were on another level, they were special.

(Initially I had their sibling there too as their parents worked away from the country, but now I think that Desmeirth was taken to the temple bc they were chosen, and raised to live a separate life. Their family love them, but they didn't get to spend time together)

Some of the temple Sisters were nice! Some of them played with them, told stories, sneaked treats for them. Others were harsher, even crueller. Caning and isolation are common disciplinary punishments in Aenora, and the temples are no exception. Because of this, it isn't really considered abusive by their standards, at least not by most people. But there's no denying they always felt stifled, and are left as an adult who doesn't know how to ever put themselves first, or have wants of their own. They don't know how to engage with people as equals, because inside the temple they're a trainee, and outside of it they're treated with reverence - and also complicated again because they're praised as someone great, but also everyone only wants something from them - heal me, bless me, witness me, pass on my prayers...

They don't know how to be a real person. They don't know who they are.

38. How does your OC react to and handle stress?

At a first glance, they appear to handle it well. Very much trained to appear calm at all times, be a comforting presence to those in need. They are a cleric in direct contact with their goddess, a chosen servant, a vessel for her will. So, they have to appear perfect. Unfortunately for them, they are not, and they are prone to panic.

Internally, they are freaking out. Please gods oh fuck oh fuck I am not equipped for this get me out of here

Outside: "Everything will be okay! Don't worry, I'll make sure everything's fine ^^"

Too easily. Another one of their teachings! Do not hold a grudge, you are a servant of the world, treat everyone, young and old, as your own child... after all, they are merely a vessel for Droden's will :)
