Ok so I've searched a ton of online content but can't seem to find the answer I need. My cat is severely underweight and I can't seem to get her to eat much more than treats (which she begs for constantly). I've taken to cutting back her treats to once a day and only giving her a few at a time to encourage her to eat more. She's 13 years old and only 5 pounds (max). (She was a runt and has always been small). She has access to food 24/7, I always keep her bowl topped off with fresh food (Iams senior care for gentle stomachs) and access to fresh running water (Aqua Cube -found at Walmart for $20- and change the filter every month). I've tried giving her soft canned food but she just licks up the sauce so fast that she gets sick. I know I should take her to the vet but I'm waiting to start work that has more than decent pay, and can't just right now. But I can feel every bone of her spine and hips and I'm so so so worried about her :( I've had her since she was 2 weeks old, I was the first thing she saw, so I am her mommy. Please, any advise is welcome!

I am on the edge right now. I cannot believe how heartless some people can be. My best friends mother, who is like my second mom, is getting tested for cancer. Not only that but she is also pregnant with a strangers child. She and her 4 kids (soon to be 5) are living with her mother. But her mother said that she is kicking them out once the child is born. They have no place to stay. And if they can't find a home then she has to send her children to stay with her abusive ex husband. Of course we would let them stay with us, but were moving across country. I just feel like it's my responsibility to something about it.
