INVITED // CRUSHED ICE: refreshing cooling desserts made for summer! We got to try the following during a recent visit to @dessertgardenau in Northbridge: Holiday Special Edition (until end of Feb; comes with lychee jelly and a choice of fruit: mango/strawberry/watermelon; suitable for vegans) - Grape Tea Crushed Ice with mango $10.50 - Lychee Tea Crushed Ice with strawberry $10.50 Drinks: - Fresh Watermelon Slushy $8.50 with crystal jelly (add $1), 50% sugar - Winter Melon Tea with fresh lemon $7 and herbal jelly (add $1) The crushed ice desserts have their home-made jasmine tea base and are strong in tea flavour. The ice is finely crushed and makes for a light dessert after dinner. We loved the grape tea crushed ice. The lychee one was nice too but more tannic in taste. There’s free white sugar syrup for those who would like it sweeter (we didn’t need this as the crushed ice combined with lychee jelly and fresh fruits were sweet enough imo). Such a god-send for this sweltering heatwave we’ve been having. Loved both the drinks which we took home. The watermelon slushy has a jasmine tea base which was very fragrant. 50% sweetness was just right for me and the crystal jelly paired perfectly. Winter melon tea with fresh lemon and herbal jelly was such a refreshing drink too and brings back childhood memories. INVITED // WARM DESSERTS TO WARM YOUR SOUL THIS WINTER ❄️🥣 // Mango Purple Rice (aud9.50) and Taro mash (aud2); Trio Tofu Pudding (aud9.50) and taro balls (aud3); Purple Rice Porridge with coconut milk & taro balls (aud9.50); Drinks: Purple Rice Fresh Milk (aud8) and Purple Rice Soy Milk (aud8.50) from Dessert Garden, Northbridge. Menu on last few pics. Favourite was the mango purple rice which had a thicker consistency of purple rice. Paired with tangy fresh Mexican mangoes, taro mash and coconut milk. The winter special: purple rice porridge is a lighter version and was created to satisfy those who still wanted a light dessert after a heavy meal. There’s an option to add more sugar syrup FOC to your sweetness liking but I felt it was sweet enough without additional syrup. I love their signature chewy taro balls made in-house. Who could say no to silky tofu pudding? The barley and mung beans are cooked fresh daily to a harder kinda al-dente texture here or it’ll disintegrate as per the owner Yvonne. Had the drinks as breakfast the next day and prefer the purple rice soy milk out of the two. Felt healthy and filling having the chewy purple rice with soy milk. INVITED: CNY DESSERT SPECIAL: LIMITED TIME ONLY - Fresh Fruit Herbal Jelly with coconut milk; aud13.80 from Dessert Garden, Northbridge. Made with fresh bouncy herbal jelly, refreshing herbal jelly shaved ice (they’ve got a new ice shaved especially for herbal jelly shaved ice!) topped with fresh seasonal fruits - mango, strawberries and watermelon in coconut milk - love how this dessert isn’t too sweet and is refreshing. To those unused to herbal jelly, there’s a tiny hint of bitterness and it’s soft, bouncy and agar-like. Thanks so much Yvonne for having us! INVITED: LIMITED EDITION TILL JANUARY // Cheesy Taro Ball Condensed Milk Crushed Ice; aud13.80 from Dessert Garden, Northbridge. Featuring brown sugar crushed ice with crystal jelly, red beans, 12 taro balls, brown sugar Pearls, brown sugar crystal jelly, cheese foam and condensed milk. Perfect for this extended summer heatwave we’re having! I must admit I have my reservations about cheese foam in a dessert (would it be too oily etc) - First time trying it and very pleasantly surprised. It was unexpectedly light and paired well with the crushed ice. Love that the brown sugar crushed ice wasn’t too sweet. The addition of creamy condensed milk tied everything together. The owner Yvonne mentioned that everything is made fresh by themselves at the premises and the cheese foam is hand-beaten. Love this dessert place offering Taiwanese style dessert goodies! INVITED // ICE ICE BABY ❄️🍧🍨 : the cold never bothered me anyway. 🤭 All the Taiwanese shaved ice and warm, filling desserts you can think of, Dessert Garden in Northbridge has got you covered. Menu on @perthfoodmenu or click #PFR_DessertGarden Of the Icey desserts, we sampled the following: Condensed Milk Crushed Ice: duo - mango & strawberry (pics 2&7; aud18.80), Taro (before & after: pics 3 & 9; aud16.80); Milky Snowflake Ice (aud15.80): mango ( pics 1&8); Pearl Milk Tea (pics 4&7); Matcha (pics5&6) and Signature Iced Taro Ball (pic 10; aud9.50). My personal favourites were the Taro condensed milk crushed ice, Mango milky snowflake ice and the Pearl milk tea flavoured milky snowflake ice. Chunky fresh taro pieces and strong, fragrant Pearl milk tea flavour. Can’t go wrong with anything mango too. The matcha flavour is really intense, strong and quite bitter - you can add more syrup if you want to neutralise the bitterness.
