TO THOSE NEW OR NOT FAMILIAR WITH THIS PARTICULAR FANDOM:
This is a great explanation of Destiel, and what it means to the fans, and how it came about. It eliminates ALL of the negativity and rumors surrounding Destiel, because we aren’t freaks. We’re a family, and we can see that in this documentary, we all are united by these two characters- all around the world, strangers are finding each other through this. Destiel is the story of two broken men who repeatedly find themselves with only each other. It is a developing “bromance”, and a bond stronger than any that most of us have seen before.
This ship has healed people, restored faith (in humanity and in a happier future), and given hope to people who are also broken. This ship has meaning outside of sex and romance, smut and fluff. It depicts friendship, family, and healing. It’s realistic- the supernatural aspects notwithstanding- because it is not an easy relationship. They didn’t automatically click, it wasn’t really love at first sight. It was a development along a long and bumpy road, and it’s not over yet. It’s never over; they haven’t found their happy ending. This isn’t a fairytale with a “happily-ever-after”. It is a life of hardship that many of us can reflect on and better ourselves. It doesn’t matter that it’s “just television” or they’re “just characters”. It’s not just the boys we are in love with- it’s the entire concept that they represent.
