Slice of Life, Comedy, School, Josei
High school student Koyuki Seri has a disposition for whipping out witty retorts... but hates people who wait for those retorts! Much to his dismay, he had caught the eye of Hanadori Kabuto, who suffers from a terrible case of delusions of grandeur and everything about him could warrant a retort. Seri swears that he will never utter a retort about Kabuto, but he just can't hold back. Not to mention, there seem to be even more strange people gathering around him... A high school boys' comedy that'll make you laugh and laugh (but can also be cute at times) is about to start!
This one has me a little bit speechless. Right from the start the pacing had me so lost I thought I was maybe watching a spinoff of an existing series. Even after looking for more information on it, I’m still not entirely convinced that it’s not. So many questions left unanswered. Why does the main character just inexplicably look like a cat? What is eyepatch guy’s connection to him? I THINK eyepatch guy has a crush on cat guy, but this concept seems to be treated like an established fact the audience should already be aware of, even though it’s the first episode? Okay so what else can I say about this show…
Most of the show’s synopsis has yet to be seen. Cat boy hasn’t shown any sort of affinity for retorts, he’s just shown constantly bitching about people that purposely say things fishing for compliments or pity. I don’t really get why he hates eyepatch guy so much though if he’s not really doing any of that, he’s just got a bad case of 8th grader syndrome that he hasn’t grown out of yet and it’s starting to get cringey. When the show seemed to finally settle into a coherent plot though it became very predictable. One of the characters in the study group, Forgettable Face kun says something like “I’m not going to get a higher grade anyway” guess what, spoilers it’s because he’s a genius and knew he was going to get a 100%.
I don’t normally watch shoujo/josei so maybe it’s just not for me, but I absolutely hated this, it didn’t make me laugh once. I usually give anime 3 episodes but I’m dreading having to ever watch this again that I wouldn’t be surprised if I “accidentally” never got around to doing a third episode review.
