Destructopus: Rampage with a conscience
This game is steeped in nostaliga. It, intentionally, reminds me of Rampage, one of the first computer games I ever played. The game-play this time around is more of a side-scroller; so you lurch across the stages clawing, biting, and eye-beam shooting your way to a greener world. The destructive elements required in giant monster game are obviously present, and do feel satisfyingly catastrophic.
One thing I like about this game is the attention to real world problems. The faux-advertising social media status updates are replaced with actual statements of awareness of real world environmental problems. Even the subject of your mutant monster like destruction are corporations involved in polluting the environment and the exploitation of endangered species. As progress through the levels and unlock new species, which you can play, if you spend real money to do so. I'm not as big of a fan of this idea, but at least it's novel.
The game-play is solid, and the fun is real. You earn points as you progress through stages which allow you to improve you mutant and his abilities.
The attention to real world problems sets this game apart from a very crowded marketplace. It allows you some amount of whimsical pay-back for environmentally damaging human industries (even the cars in the game expel obvious exhaust pollution).
Over-all, this is a game with an argument, and that argument is: Don't be a dick to mother nature.
