Another cool thing about Devil Survivor is that, in a series known for its criticism of the Abrahamic faith, the game actually gives fair arguments for why God would put humanity through ordeals. In almost every SMT game, the Law route is entirely unpalatable for being intensely authoritarian, but Devil Survivor actually makes following YHVH understandable.

Instead, it's Law route is more representative of Jesus' teachings. Humanity isn't giving up free will by following God, and there is opportunity for sinners to be redeemed. It represents what I think are the more positive aspects of Christianity, and results in many people joining the faith of their own free will.

I'm a proud apostate. I left my Evangelical Free Church years ago and still consider it the best decision I've ever made. The entire reason I first picked up Devil Survivor was to help me get over my fear of hell and demons. Still, I feel like ignoring the reasons WHY people follow religion so intensely does more harm than good by reverting to the same us-vs-them, black-and-white thinking that Christian churches are so often guilty of. It was such a breath of fresh air to see every side of the central conflict be completely understandable, from hating God for setting humans up to fail to loving God for giving humans a fair chance in spite of their flaws.
