My dad asked me what I was doing the other day and I said "playing a game."
He was disappointed that I wasn't working...on my birthday. See what I mean by contradicting ideas? Birthdays are like time to yourself but everybody seems to make it about something else.
My grandma is going to her friend's son's birthday tomorrow but probably not my mom's? (Both on Sunday) Like you value them over your own daughter? I get that we just had my birthday but every year we've made it a deal to have separate birthdays. And while we might not be doing much tomorrow, it just really peeves me off. You couldn't make your doctors appointment on some other day? You couldn't try to sleep last night so you could be awake for today? You couldn't wait to get your prescriptions another day? It's like the only person who prioritizes your birthday is you but I've never felt that way about anybody.
When it was my uncle's birthday the one year he wasn't going to celebrate it but I insisted that we do and he was happy, I didn't want to force it on him but it just seemed like nobody else cared so he just decided he wouldn't celebrate it. I'd take off days from work, from school, from anything to celebrate someone's birthday but it just seems they won't do the same for me or anybody else. I kind of refuse to say that birthdays aren't some sacred thing, I just think it's wrong that people devalue them over time. It's not really a holiday or anything but it's a day to just relax and do what you want.

By Emele Onu and Tope AlakeBloomberg Nigeria’s central bank devalued the naira by 7.6% against the dollar as authorities in Africa’s biggest oil producer migrate toward a single exchange-rate system for the local currency. The Abuja-based Central Bank…
