PITCH SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

“Human Heart” is an unofficial art fanzine dedicated to the series Devilman by Go Nagai. The theme is focused on questions posed in the franchise: What does it mean to be human? A devilman? A demon?  What are those intersections, and how are those ideas expressed through emotion, action, experiences? All existing versions of Devilman--Manga, OVAs, Crybaby, etc.--are welcome!

Submission guidelines:

Please submit a clear, readable sketch, a description/explanation of your concept, and an example of your own work in the style closest to the one you plan to execute your piece in.

Although not necessary for the sketch, keep in mind that the final pieces will be either 6” x 9” (portrait) or 12” x 9” (landscape) depending on how you orient your piece.

Comics can be submitted, although we ask you to limit the number of pages up to 8. Dialogue must be legible.

No porn or overly sexual content will be accepted as submissions. Nudity, gore, and blood are allowed in final pieces, but please be mindful of extreme NSFW. ONLY participants who are over the age of 18 will be accepted due to the nature of the series. Those who are under the age of 18 will not be accepted.

What is looked for in submissions:

We’re looking for finished works of a variety of styles and concepts, as well as dynamic and appealing compositions! Backgrounds are optional, but highly preferred; a pattern is a bare minimum. We seek to have an even distribution of different versions of Devilman, so we highly encourage art from all versions! This includes the Manga, OVA, and Crybaby, as well as any others you can think of (Yes… even… Devilman Lady….). We’d also really love to see an array of varying concepts, so we highly encourage you to venture outside the box, explore, and take on unconventional concepts and ideas!! Go Wild!

Please read and familiarize yourself with our FAQ and Schedule before submitting your pitch! Accepted artists will receive a free copy of the zine and if possible, potential merchandise.

Submissions will run from February 7th 12:00AM EST to February 25 12:00AM EST!! Accepted pitches will be sent invitations to the zine’s Discord.
