Care for a devil’s apple? This is an extra large seedpod of datura inoxia from my poison garden.

Fun fact: the seedpod itself doesn’t have poisonous or psychoactive alkaloids as they are mostly water. The seeds, however, are the most deadly poisonous part of the plant. Do not ingest.

Thornapple Locket

Thornapple, also known as Datura, Jimsonweed or Devil's Apple is a traditional visionary plant of North America and associated with Witchcraft in medieval European plant lore. Datura is connected with the Moon and the nocturnal powers of the night, the flowers open in the evening, releasing their intoxicating scent and wilt the next day. The attract moths and other nighttime insects, which are seen as messengers of the dead and the spirit world. Datura has been used to protect from nightmares and overcome fears, it enhances psychic protection and dream work.

That’s not shadow around the edges, it’s actually a very faint lilac purple.

Usually when you see pictures or diagrams of datura blooms, they’re all white with purple interior, but the different growing conditions and evolutions of flowers is truly amazing.

And I want to bathe in the subtle heady smell of it.
