Sasuke had been in the kitchen washing the dishes when Naruto came in and spoke. He was surprised but managed to not show it as he just calmly rinsed the last plate and put it in the dish rack as he wiped his hands on a nearby rack, turning around to face the blonde. “Hm?”
Naruto hesitated before speaking, casting his eyes downwards in obvious discomfort. “…Why I do that to myself. Because I don’t want to let myself hurt the emotional pain, you know? Of my childhood, of losing my parents, of you leave…” Sasuke cringed at that but said nothing and let him continue, “…Because I always try to keep smiling and be optimistic for everyone else. But I’m human too, dattebayo. I hurt and if I can’t let myself hurt emotionally then…”
“…You’re still an idiot.”
The blonde couldn’t say he wasn’t expecting those words but what he didn’t expect was for Sasuke to walk over and wrap his arms around him, pulling him into a tight embrace. “Dobe, you’re allowed to hurt you know,” Sasuke said quietly, his blunt words masking what he truly felt. Not that bluntness could fool Naruto anymore and he smiled as he wrapped his arms around the Uchiha in return.
