Summarizing, in this video, @DevinNash shares 6 mistakes new streamers make. I watched it because I’m a new streamer and saw it as a learning opportunity. The first 4 were obvious to me, but number 5 gave me the smack in the face I hadn’t realized I needed. Devin saved the worst one for last, but it, too, was also obvious.
5 was, “How do I monetize?” And it hit me I was presenting myself poorly.
On my channel, my goal is to educate my viewers on game development so as to answer the question, "Why do video games take so long to make?" The purpose being so people will be less upset when and understand why a game gets delayed. But it looked like I was in it solely for the money.
I went to my Twitch and removed my Ko-fi panel; I removed the link from my #about-me channel in Discord, and I removed it from my Twitter. All I have left on my Twitch panels is a small TIP image with a link to click if someone wants to further support and it’s at the bottom of the page.
I no longer have Ko-fi in anyone’s face; people have to want to click it now.
Education and fun are the goals, support is the bonus.
I want there to be value in my channel; I have something I want people to see in the world; I want to empower people with knowledge.
With knowledge comes patience and understanding.
Thank you Devin for this video; it helped me in a way I didn’t realize I needed.
Thank you all for reading; may every decision you make in the future be in the spirit of fairness and you have a nice rest of your day.
