spotify wrapped, discord checkpoint, your bank exposing your spending.. none of it compares to the 2025 tumblr roundup! there is a something about leonardo dicaprio in obaa that is very bros coded to me; what else was major for you? shows, movies, songs, moments, anything at all spongebob big guy pants ok!
IMOOOO I love these round-ups so much because how the hell else am I supposed to appreciate all the lovely things that have changed me #forgood (certainly not that)
Somehow I dodged OBAA it seemed every screening I was invited to was during something else and by the time I was free, everyone had seen it </3 I trust your judgement though and will report back once I finally watch it in a year or two
Books: admittedly not my best year, came up 2 short on my goal but whatevz I'm over quantification and now just wanna dive into something meaty. my tops were:
American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
On Certainty by Ludwig Wittgenstein (rewired my brain)
Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay
The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides (the entire chapter/blurb about Trip Fontaine was one of the most dreamy things I’ve ever read, and the ending one of the most haunting — I’m almost embarrassed by how much this moved me)
TV: I’m still doing the chronological survivor thing, been stalled at 36 since November so will really need to kick my ass into gear if I want to catch up by 50 next month bonkkkk. I did cheat and dabble in 49 because I finally have a group of friends that are also into survivor and do weekly viewings so I went to the first couple for the sake of #community and it was so fun!! (the community aspect - the season itself was whatever) but anyway, I’m excited to get back into real TV again this year :')
Movies: I always round up my top 20 first watches of the year but my top 3:
We All Loved Each Other So Much (1974) Ettore Scola
Cleaners (2019) Glenn Barit
A Face in the Crowd (1957) Elia Kazan
and my favorite 2025 releases (of the few I saw):
Room Temperature (2025) Zac Farley & Dennis Cooper (I went to a q&a screening which was so surreal + special for me, noted Dennis Cooper lover)
Magic Farm (2025) Amalia Ulman
Music: got frustrated with streaming + not being able to use my wired headphones due to apple discontinuing dongles for lightning port (it was this whole thing) so I got a refurbished iPod this year and it’s been so fun getting back into it! I’m an album > playlist girl but especially when listening to my iPod, so on there I’ve been loving older Belle & Sebastian, Interpol, and Elvis Costello randomly. As for new music, I dug the new Smerz album and Officer John’s EP. I also got into Jack J whom I saw open for Freak Heat Waves, Top Tier xanax jams
MOMENTS…. My sister AND one of my favorite cousins got married which was huge!! I can’t remember if I mentioned in the last round-up (did I even do one last year??) but last year I moved to a new city and it’s absurd how at home I already feel. I lucked out with an amazing group of friends (mostly thanks to my former roommate, who so graciously and immediately inducted me into her group) and there’s never a dull moment. Then, this summer, I moved into my own place for the first time and the magic still hasn’t worn off. Even just making coffee and listening to the radio in the morning makes me giddy and feel like I’m essentially living the life I’ve dreamed of at this point in my life? Wild stuff. Overall very proud and humbled and I’m excited for a meteoric 2025 to seem as a starting point for whatever I get into this year yayyyyyy
spotify wrapped, discord checkpoint, your bank exposing your spending.. none of it compares to the 2025 tumblr roundup! i can't recall any major batman news this year but no news is good news? what else was major for you? shows, movies, songs, moments, anything at all spongebob big guy pants ok!
very very belated this year but a late happy birthday and happy new year!!! i am once again reminded that time does not exist and have no idea what happened in 2025
there was indeed no new batman news....unless you count all the superman rumors....which i don't. i do however count paul dano randomly wearing his batman crew hoodie in a random photo a while ago as SOMETHING..
ok!!!!
i did not read near a much as i should have this year which is something i gotta work on in 2026....both the first book i read in 2025 (graveyard shift by m. l. rio (ok novella whatever)) and the last (the lightning bottles by marissa stapely) were huge disappointments booo start to back floppage, but i guess the best thing i read this year was milk fed by melissa broder which was pretty good so!
of course sinners and weapons were huge highlights, and my favorite movie i saw this year that wasn't actually released in 2025 was probably a different man (2024)!
my music taste has been the same since like 2023 but i've been getting even more into shoegaze lately, here are some more obscure songs!! x, x, x
i rewatched gotham for the first time in full since 2019 and that was certainly A Journey - definitely a highlight for me, espcially since my boyfriend has never seen it and could soak in all the stupidity for the first time i'm so jealous
always great to hear from you!!! my simblr 2026 resolution is to actually make One Singular Story post
spotify wrapped, discord checkpoint, your bank exposing your spending.. none of it compares to the 2025 tumblr roundup! sinners changed both of our lives and of course we have to get into the real housewives of it all; what else was major for you? shows, movies, songs, moments, your wedding, anything at all spongebob big guy pants ok!
you asking my major moments and then listing 3 of them...ok!
film/tv wise I locked into reality tv this year more than anything. as you know I am thoroughly rhom s5 (lenny hochstein must d*e) and kimora: back in the fab lane (I had babyphat glasses growing up...it was so serious) hayu has defo been my most useful subscription....tv wise gen v is in my heart. I need to get back into scripted but I cannot find the time...film wise I have been collecting dvds of my favourite old media.
I am awaiting some choice items in my christmas stockings then will go through my collection with u. I have just learned I only got to the cinema 6 times this year which is morally reprehensible to me so I am to double that in 2026.
I also saw devil wears prada on the west end which was upon reflection was fun and camp and seeing vanessa williams in person will stay with me forever 🥰
this was a huuuuge music year for me. JADE is the moment. that's showbiz, baby has changed me and seeing it live was so fucking fab. (coco and clairclair concert you're bones!) pop music is incredible at present. zara larsson has also caught my attention again. I am also v much enjoying destin conrad! (song rec- bad bitches - get into it!)
of course the real moment of the year was my wedding......everyone looked hot, your simblr mutual to bridesmaid pipeline was fulfilled and everyone really enjoyed themselves! theo and I are *still* getting compliments on how good the music was and how much fun people had even tho another family wedding has taken place since! i love being a lesbian wife i feel like it's a very good look on me and aligns with my general way of being.
bonus moment was our coordinated halloween costumes (send the pictures!) and trying my first buzzball(s). I am getting the giant one next week 😘
lady merita.. i know you had massive movie flops in 2024 but really interested to know which movies saved you (romulus, wicked, smile 2..) along with other media that was your fav in 2024! new releases or new to you, what's the verdict?
Imo! this is my ultimate fav movies I watched in 2024 in order (kinda)! I know baby reindeer isn’t a movie but it was available to rate in letterbox and you still asked about other media
movies that are close to my top 20 and I loved:
- speak no evil
- that’s all lmao the other movies I left behind left me quite disappointed/i think are mid to my personal taste
shows…
you know I started always sunny which I’m enjoying big time, abbot elementary and the last man on earth which I couldn’t bear to finish because I started to get really annoyed by the characters’ dynamics?? still was a fun watch while it lasted
music…
big brat enjoyer - any variation of the album, mostly loved every remix and each of the songs was my company through different times from its release till the end of the year
short n sweet by sabrina carpenter was a huge surprise! her style caught my eye and soon I became a fan of her music and persona
chappel roan big discovery too - got red wine supernova recommended to me in 2023 and hearing her everywhere got me hooked on the rest of her album
disease! gaga’s back! this is just a song but what a pop comeback
addison rae… best rebranding? I fear
found the dare when he released the sex ep and stayed for the guess slay + his album. love his sound and 2010 sleaze vibes he brings to the table
not sure if I’m forgetting something but that’s a little summary. thanks for the question love u imo! <3
hii angel! i come to you as an absent mutual to get your top of 2024 media! movies, shows, books, you name it! biggest flops/what surprised you? need to know it all! also happy new year!
imo I've missed seeing you on my dash and was actually gobsmacked when you appeared!
I've come to find out/accept that I'm not a movie gal as much as I'd like to be but! I did watch day shift with jamie fox as recommended by a coworker and...vampire hunter jamie wasn't something I knew I needed!
show, one singular show: your honor! after googling this I realized I'm late to the party but that's okay bc I've arrived nonetheless. drama, grief, tough positions (is an understatement), corruption, politics, morals, ethics, grey areas!!! this show is just good.
books: one that immediately comes to mind is adam hamdy's the other side of night. thought a lot of thoughts when reading that one, I didn't think I would like it as much as I did. when I tell you I had a blast...I mean I was talking through the plot, making predictions, guessing culprits out loud...like to myself. getting myself my own copy so I can smile every time I look at my bookshelf.
one I'm currently reading that is gearing up to be 4 (mayhaps 5 stars?) is pritty by kieth miller jr. now I'm not the biggest fan of young adult fiction but this book is making a supporter out of me. I literally neeeeed to see this book on the big screen. it's giving limited tv series with an excellent yet unknown cast. like people in high places: can you make this happen? so many scenes in this book are television worthy, the author is writing, is representing, is giving us a peek into a culture and climate that is often referred to when people request diversity (but is also often not given the propper platform to shine). I'm not even done with this book, but I've seen the vision and respect this author sm
can I say here that ms mary kubica isn't for me? disappointed that her mystery novel she's not sorry didn't work for me. I read half of the book before I dnf. the plot was entertaining and I was intrigued until I wasn't. idk her audience. I felt like I was solving the mystery while our main character was turning a blind eye and making obvious assumptions that are most likely red herrings. also she kept mentioning masculine handwriting (??) and emphasizing masculinity through characteristics, actions, etc. idk if this was the character or kubica but...no?
this is long, but I'm so happy to share my thoughts in length with you and bc I hardly do otherwise
i come to you as an absent mutual to get your top of 2024 media! movies, shows, books, you name it! biggest flops/what surprised you? need to know it all! assuming the penguin is up there (condolences about the batman 2 postponement. keeping you in my thoughts..)
hello!!!!! and happy belated birthday!!!!!!!!! <3333
2024 was the craziest year of my life (in a good way (mostly)) do i even know what happened in 2024 vs what happened 10 years ago because that's how long it felt let's find out
(yes the batman 2 postponement i am in mourning.....they want me gone)
yes OF COURSE we have to talk about the penguin can i talk about the penguin please i've been dying to talk about the penguin all day. no but it turned out so much better than i thought it was going to omg i was getting nervous about it, considering matt reeves wasn't super involved, and some of the trailers were edited really badly (seriously who was in charge of those....). if that script had been bad it would have been the end for me.....but it was great so we've never been more back!!!! even though the finale left me feeling like shit for like 15 hours after (it was good......but......wow......ok........)
i saw the tv glow. i literally had to go on an hour long walk outside at midnight after i watched that movie. that's all i have to say.
well no actually one thing to say let's throw in the soundtrack too for good measure claw machine and taper my beloved
big surprise in french exit by patrick dewitt, my favorite book i read in 2024!!! not my usual type of book at all like i love pain and misery, what do you mean my favorite book of the year was funny??? still working through all of his other books (someone tell me to stop buying new books though....)
late entry with the band telever because they are insanely underrated. anyone who likes shoegaze you GOTTA listen to them this is my favorite song by them please it only has 6000 streams you'll like it i swear
also listen i know everyone liked nosferatu. the lighthouse is my third favorite movie of all time. and nosferatu (1922) is my second favorite movie of all time. it did not do it for me. i'll never be happy again
i DID get to see the 1922 nosferatu in theaters for the first time in october though and that was magical!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but the actual biggest flop of the year was me months january to may
but the biggest comeback of the year was me months june to december let's go boys
spotify wrapped, discord checkpoint, your bank exposing your spending.. none of it compares to the 2025 tumblr roundup! i know you've been reading a lot this year and i'm curious to know what else was major for you? shows, movies, songs, moments, anything at all spongebob big guy pants ok!
sorry this took so long to answer, thank you imo, miss you <3
I haven't read any books that truly wowed me this year. this might be my fault bc I stick to mystery/thriller (though if anyone knows of any earth shattering mysteries plz lmk).
the book I enjoyed the most, although I started it in 24' and finished early this year, was "pritty" by keith miller jr... I need that book on the big screen real soon. "the last flight" by julie clark also helped me remember why I enjoy reading
hoping to read books that bring me joy and/or fulfillment. books that I'm passionate about and wanna talk about! actually...I'll be checking your goodreads profile after this👁️👁️
music tho? halsey has my heart thanks to "the great impersonator." "panic attack" "lonely is the muse" and "ego" have been my top three for a while. the rest of the album makes me cry HA though that only speaks to her talent and authenticity🙂↕️
movies? ratatouille (2007)...walk with me! I didn't realize how perfect this film was until I rewatched it a few months back. my fondness only grew when I wrote a 10+ film analysis paper for it. it's the best animated film and I won't be listening to differing opinions on this matter. rewatch this asap! it's gold🌟
otherwise I haven't watched any new films/shows that stuck out. I will mention that I've been pulled into the 9-1-1 fandom by my ankles and I'm not upset about it. the (fic) writers there are immensely talented and need to be let into the writers room at abc like yesterday🫡
happy belated birthdayy🩷 and happy new year imo🎉🎊 I wish you all the best. getting this ask made me smile, very much a highlight :')
