You'd been invited to a sleepover at Devon's alongside Tory and Sam. You were close to the trio, which was why you were invited so quickly. So, in the days leading up to Saturday, you were growing more and more excited.
Though, Devon and Sensei Lawrence had been acting a little weird around you. They'd be talking all secretively and go silent when you approached. Maybe it was some father-daughter like talk, but it still seemed suspicious in your eyes.

Tory 🤞😈
were sitting next to them right now
she's trying to figure out your favorite things
God, you couldn't even approach the pretty, dark-haired girl without feeling like you were bothering her. She seemed so quiet around you now. You were honestly debating skipping the sleepover.
Though, it didn't matter by the time you arrived at Devon's for the sleepover.
You'd been to Devon's many times for sleepovers and to hang out with her and assortments of other friends, but this time felt more... off. To start off, Devon didn't even let you in, Tory did. You were half an hour early, and both her and Sam had been hanging out in Devon's room for at least an hour beforehand.
And once you got there, it was so quiet.
You four decided to play Uno on Devon's Nintendo Switch that she had set up to her TV. Tory and Devon used joycons while you and Sam used some spare controllers that plugged into the system. You played for a solid hour, with the four of you switching around Sam's deck of 99+ cards. The +4 cards were brutal out there.
You went to use the bathroom where you texted the groupchat, showing them stupid TikToks you'd saved from earlier.
By hour two, you switched on a movie and snacked, bingeing the Scary Movie series. Every time you'd come together to make dumb jokes and point things out or laugh, you'd catch yourself staring at Devon. You couldn't help but fawn over her voice, her adorable laugh, the way she covered her face and fell back when she cackled uncontrollably.
By hour five or six, you sat in a circle on Devon's bedroom floor, some shit horror movie quietly playing in the background. Truth or Drink time, yippee.
Truth or Drink is usually for adults, but since the opportunities for dares was abnormally low, you made battery acid to drink from. The "battery acid" was made of Monster energy drinks, Sour Patch Kids, and other similar, sour candies and liquids. It was awful.
"So..." Tory smiles, "Sam."
Sam groans, knowing she'd forever be the one going first.
"Have you ever lied to Miguel? Within the past year or so, no drama"
Sam sits silent, looking like she's pondering between drinking or being honest, looking guilty. She sighs. "Once. He asked if I wanted to hang out and I said no because I was helping my dad out at the dojo. I was actually laying around doing nothing while gossiping with my brother" she chuckles
"Honest answer." you nod
"I thought she was gonna drink," Devon giggles
"I did, too!" Tory agrees
You turn to Devon. "It's your turn" you grin mischievously
"Help us all." she falls on her back, purposefully, knowing whatever you asked was either going to be awful to the point she'd have to drink, or either really tame.
"Do you have a crush on anyone?" you ask, curious
She bites her bottom lip before nodding.
You, Sam, and Tory nod and giggle, jokingly making fun of her. Something told you that Sam and Tory weren't as surprised as you were, though. You weren't even shocked to think that, though. They seemed so secretive around you.
You did a lot of drinking through the game. The battery acid plus all the drinks you were sipping on earlier were running through you by now. You urgently stand up, rushing to the bathroom. The girls shouted from down the hall that they were pausing the game and reloading on snacks, assuring you they wouldn't continue without you.
As you sit in the bathroom, using it as a little breather away from the girls to gather your thoughts, you scroll through Instagram Reels, needing an awful laugh. God, that app was so cursed, but you loved it so much.
In Devon's room, the girls are whispering quietly.
"You need to tell them at some point. Bottling it up is super unhealthy," Sam speaks
Tory nods in agreement. "They're probably gonna sit outside for a bit once they get back. You know how they like to do that before going to sleep,"
Devon nods. "What do I even say?"
"Just listen to your heart," Tory answers. "Tell them what you feel"
Devon's face grows red, nervous, embarrassed, and flustered. "What if I mess up?"
"It'll be okay, we promise" Sam assures
The girls quickly hush as they hear the bathroom door open, and hear your footsteps travel down the stairs, headed to the porch. Devon looks back at the two girls, wide-eyed. They whisper shout for her to follow you, knowing they were gonna follow right behind her to listen through the front door.
Devon moves swiftly and softly, allowing you to sit by yourself for a moment before she joins you. Her hands are shaking out of fear, and what she feels like is a panic attack is rising. Her heart begins to constrict and she can barely speak to the girls.
Sam immediately notices, sitting Devon down. She rushes to the kitchen for water while Tory instructs her to breathe, asking what was wrong.
"What if I mess it up? They're so attractive and perfect, and funny, and they make me so happy. I'm not good enough for them. And what if they hate me and don't wanna be friends with me anymore?"
The girls softly smile, sharing a look.
"Devon," Tory begins. "You are enough. Don't tell yourself you aren't. They don't care about your karate skills or how fast you can destroy a debate. They care about you, what's inside is what matters"
"Also..." Sam continues. "Y/n doesn't drop friends over small things. Trust us, your percentage of acceptance is a lot higher than you think"
Devon takes a confident deep breath before nodding, pushing herself back up on her feet. She rests her hand on the doorknob, looking back at Sam and Tory for assurance. They nod and silently cheer her on, watching as she pulls the door open, stepping outside to join you.
She lightly smiles as you lay eyes on her, watching her join you. She sits on the steps next to you, staring out at nothing, just as you were.
"Feels nice out here"
You nod. "It's nicer with you here"
Her face quickly flushes.
"Why are you out here, though?"
"Uh, I wanted to tell you something" she answers
"Like how you're madly in love with me or something?"
Devon's face is entirely white, wondering how you knew.
"You guys are really loud, even when you're whispering." you explain. "Or maybe your walls are made out of construction paper"
She awkwardly chuckles, unable to look at you. "Do you reciprocate?..."
You nod. "I thought I'd have to be the one to do it, being the man here and all"
"Shut up" she giggles
In a swift movement, you jump up and run into the yard, throwing up. Said bio-hazard is liquid for the most part, revealing pieces of sour candies and popcorn. Devon covers her mouth, shocked and worried for you. She stands up, looking at you from the porch, dressed in her Scooby-Doo shirt and matching purple and teal pants.
"Are you okay?"
You cough, nodding, hands on your knees as your back rests at a 90 degree angle. You hold up a thumbs up for her. "Too much snacking. And battery acid"
"Oh my God," she quickly turns around to see Tory and Sam standing in front of the screen door, urging them to get some water and a towel for you. Meanwhile, she rushes to you, making sure you could stand and whatnot. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," you chuckle, shielding her from bio-hazard breath with your hand. "Thank you, Dev"
She smiles, "Of course"
Sam and Tory stand on the porch, water bottles and towels in their hands, watching the scene unfold.
