My own TMNT as dragons au has taken over ALL of my thoughts as of late, and ive been so motivated to finish the designs i made for everyone and its been so cathartic to get all of the reference sheets complete >:D
Now that they have designs.... i finally have more room for PLOT and STORY IDEAS and SHENANIGANS. Right now all of the characters seem like blank faces because ive never talked about the adventures theyve been on or their backstories and how plot will deviate from canon events. They have cool designs, sure, buuuut now i get to give them personalities and story and THAT is going to take forever and ever, but its gonna be fun.
Last night i was thinking about how i was going to explain Tang Shens origin and how exactly i switched Yoshi (Splinter/Lou Jitsu) out and put her in his place, and i think i came up with a pretty good explanation.
Im being very loose with the lore and backstory, its open to interpretation and im not that fussed on the details right now. The idea so far is that Yoshi and Tang Shen were close childhood friends and both moved to America at the same time, Yoshi still becomes Lou Jitsu and Tang Shen has... career overlap and sometimes works with him. Tang Shen has a crush on Yoshi, but he never really noticed, just saw her as a good friend, and she was devastated when he developed feelings for another woman that wasnt her. Tang Shen still remained close and continued to be his best friend though, she really cared for him even if he didnt reciprocate her love.
Turns out that other woman was Big Mama :) Yoshi still gets kidnapped by her, but this time he had a friend who had her suspicions and went looking for him when he "mysteriously disappeared". Tang Shen follows the trail and it takes her a year to find out about the Hidden City, discover the Battle Nexus/Hotel run by Big Mama and where Yoshi was being kept. By the time she gets there, the gargoyles had just left to take him to Draxum and she follows.
She sneaks into Draxums place, just in time to overhear and see him explain his plan to make super soldiers against humanity, she witnesses how Yoshi fights to stop him from doing that, but the fight goes worse than in canon. When the lab starts to collapse and explode, debris falls on Yoshi, killing him. So Tang Shen steps in and finishes what she realised Yoshi was trying to: rescue these mysterious little creatures (that she later finds out are dragons) in his place! While doing so, she comes in contact with the ooze and thats how she mutates into a dragon. In honor of her best friends death, she looks after the baby dragons she was able to rescue as if they were her own children <3
Im not sure if i want to turn that into a fic or draw it, a comic feels like it would work better for The Vision i have, but i dont know where to start when it comes to drawing comics :C thats something i need to learn.
Ive also been debating the pros and cons of dragon beaming Jennika from IDW. She kind of fills the same role that Frida does in this AU, and even if i really would love to design another dragon, i add characters for strategic purpose. Everyone fills a niche or a role, and im not sure how i could fit Jennika into it just yet. BUT I WANNA.
I also noticed something interesting a few days ago, ive only had 2 or so asks about my dragon AU, whereas TTF (Totally Feline Fine) and WFI (Wait For It) get plenty of really interesting asks, ones that do allot to help me develop the AU further. But dragonfruit has never gotten asks that like that, and it has me wondering if people dont have questions or dont know what questions to ask, and im assuming its because ive never actually talked about how the plot changes stuff that would actually give people things to ask about!
Or maybe i havent reached the dragons nerds in the TMNT community, who knows? Food for thought.
