The Duskwight didn’t remember how it happened. He had been drinking, but only lightly, as was his usual routine. Others always called it ‘nursing’, as if the Elezen was a babe rather than a 6′11′’ tall young man. He had decided to take to the bar at KISS, thankful that it was not a night full of events and he was alone. At least, he thought.
Suddenly, but not abruptly, there was warmth. Not the weightless feeling in his core that lingered like a low fire due to imbibing spirits, but a seeping heat. One that came from his side, more specifically, his right side at his arm and shoulder. Golden eyes dipped to the source, bright in the low light of the room and they widened as Auliander found another form.
Renaux- ?
Auliander could barely see the other man’s face. It was shrouded both in darkness, and the man’s mussed hair. What Auliander could see though, was that his eyes were shut. Renaux’s body was lax against his, curled against the retainer’s shoulder and from the close contact, Auliander could hear the soft, steady and slow breath of someone who had fallen victim to slumber. And also, alcohol. The smell was potent and came strong from the other.
The Duskwight did not move, nor did he want to. There was comfort in the lack of noise around them. Such a difference from Auliander’s usual visits. Loud, sometimes brazen, and brash but still entertaining, amazing and… fun were the performances.
So… Auliander sat. He ‘nursed’ his drink. Those amber eyes trailed across the vacant venue before again falling on Renaux. The retainer was surprised the other man had snuck up on him so. Perhaps he had been drinking longer than he thought. More than he had thought. Questions floated in his brain but were drowned with wine. Later. Ask later. The warmth was nice. It was calm, serene. Safe.
The only thoughts left lingering in Auliander’s mind were the fact that he knew little of the man at his side. They had spoken only a handful of times but … the Duskwight trusted him. Renaux had that air about him, that aura. Secrets lingered at the edge of it, unspoken and untold yet still his trust in Renaux was not a blind one. Auliander’s gaze focused heavily on the sleeping features of the man, eyes seemingly deepening in color but then those thoughts were drifting just as those questions before.
Lost at sea.
Before he had realized it, Auliander’s body had relaxed itself in slight against Renaux’s. The last thought that came to him before he closed his eyes was the quiet hope that the other Elezen was not a drooler.
