From the earliest days of the British Daimler Co., the Daimler name has been inextricably linked with stately carriages for Royalty. with a quality of engineering on a par with Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Lanchester and Napier. From as early as 1908 Daimler had adopted the Knight double sleeve valve engine, noted for its supreme silence. In 1929 Daimler's range encompassed six-cylinder and twelve-cylinder motor cars and the six-cylinder 35/120 model was the second largest car in the range with its 5.8 litre sleeve valve engine. Introduced in 1925 the 35/120 with a 5800cc Straight six version of the Knight double sleeve valve engine, the cars was available with options of a 148 inch or 156 inch chassis', as a Landaulette or a Limousine. The engine was supplemented with Autovac, dual coil ignition and late ones had an option of a fluid fly wheel, which became standard in 1932, its final year. There is a suggestion that this car was the 1929 Olympia Motor Show, show car 31st January 1930 with Gloucestershire County Council and the first recorded owner in the continuation buff log book, commencing in June 1952, was a Charles Wingfield of Barrington Park, Burford, who may well have been the first owner of this car. In July 1952 it passed to P.H. Nicholas & Son of Wisbech and was at that time re-licenced as a hackney carriage. It returned to Olympia in 1968 making an Olympia appearance at The Car of the Year Show in 1968, as a qualifying Champion of Champions. It has two occasional seats, which help provide accommodation for seven passengers. The rear compartment is particularly impressive with silk blinds to each of the rear windows and also to the two-piece, wind-down division. Rotax head and side lamps are fitted while twin side-mounted spare wheels provide for the longer motor tour. The rear doors open to reveal supplier's plates from Stratton Instone Ltd. of 27 Pall Mall and Maythorn & Son Ltd. of Biggleswade.
