If he still had eyes capable of rolling, they absolutely would be right now. Instead the closest thing he can mime is just titling his head to the one side, looking directly at the other for a moment. It's easy to tell why Rin and the others had gravitated towards him so quickly. He supposes he can't be too harsh however .. it's clear just how out of his depth he appears to be. Vinyl city can certainly be overwhelming to the unversed, and his.. everything made that obvious.

Do the worms impede speech at all? Maybe those who have them need to use some ventriloquist tricks to speak understandably? Do all 'cast' members speak a common language? I hope I'm not bothering you with these questions, I'm just very curious....

No problem!

The worms and general physical variability would impede speaking most human languages. So the people of the bio-city speak a much more gutteral language with fairly simple sounds. They also have commonly known sign language for people who can’t speak at all.

These are the only two languages in the city. There are plenty of regional dialects though, but with effort most people can understand each other. The entire population came from a single source and mass communication exists (nerves, giant city nerves that can be hacked to send morse code and fax-like messages), so the languages don’t diverge very much.

Wow, I am in love with your dfect universe...even your wormy Zarya(fav)... and I'm fascinated by a post about how in your 'cast' society most human looking people are male while the female and otherwise-ungendered people are the more odd-looking ones... any particular reason for that or was it just because you wanted to draw more monster ladies?

Thanks! A lot of d-fect is changing right now so I’m not quite sure if that will also change. But I intend to make sure the women are at least as monstrous as the men, if not more.

It’s pretty common in games and comics and cartoons to have the body diversity of male characters be much greater than that of female characters. There isn’t a very good reason for this and I wanted to have plenty of scary ladies.

At the same time, I’m not interested in making the dudes boring humans. So the original idea was that men generally had symbiotic parasites, and the women and nonbinary folks generally looked less human. But I liked the worms so much I decided to give one to Soft-Break. Maybe the idea still stands and she’s just a wormy lady!

But yeah, my default is drawing monstery dudes so I’m trying to make sure that I draw plenty of monster ladies too. The world needs more monster women!

Furnace and Soft-Break (formerly known as Princess Bigarms) got a few updates. They’ll probably get more updates so that Soft-Break looks less like a wormy Zarya and Furnace less like the product of Raiden knocking up a xenomorph.

I think Furnace is blind. Sort of blind anyways. Since his brain was modified to favor speed over accuracy his vision his largely unconscious now (consciousness is great but very slow). Blindsight, basically. So that’s why he can dodge bullets but can’t read signs. He knows things are around him and he’ll never bump into anything but he’s very slow at figuring out what he’s seeing. Hearing and touch are conscious though (he’s learning braille and loves terrible spy novels). He also has other eyelike sensors around his body, so 360 degree vision that’s really only good for combat.
