“we’re gonna destroy the outsider for the suffering he caused”
hm..... ok...... not buying it daud!! this writing? not selling me on this based upon ur past actions!!!
a way to make this more compelling: daud isn’t really after killing the outsider for this “selfless” mission. he’s old and tired and finally forced to confront the cost of his lifetime actions, no longer able to ignore the consequences he accepted when he took the mark. he didn’t realize until he’s sitting on what he knows is his deathbed how much the prospect of having to remain trapped in the void forever terrified him.
he’s telling billie it’s about wanting to make it right, to stop a monster with infinite power, but they both know the truth. billie carries the weight of her betrayal every day, and she carries the forgiveness daud gave her too. she knows this isn’t a noble quest. but she’s so desperate to have him back, to have even a fraction of that familial affection again when she’s been so alone and so lonely for so long, that she wants to believe him. having daud back reminds her of a time when she wasn’t just a shadow caught between timelines. she’ll pretend to believe this really is a good, just cause, because she needs this—this stability and closeness. and she would kill a god just to have it.
in conclusion, thank u for coming to my ted talk, there will be refreshments served any moment now
