Rex woke up with the worst headache of his life. And this wasn’t his room, and it sure as hell was not his house. He couldn’t recall if it was even remotely possible that he went home with someone he picked up at the bar. But if that was the case he wouldn’t be tucked into someone’s double bed fully dressed and he wouldn’t be alone.
So Rex decided to get up. He looked around the floor he was on. There were 7 door that lead to 4 bedrooms, an attic, and 2 bathrooms on the floor and stairs to the ground floor. When he had peaked into the bedrooms only 2 were set up for sleeping. One had obviously been converted into a library for academic. It just screamed look at me, I’m used for research just like Cody’s office at the university. The last room was empty except for shelves and a couch.
Seeing no one on the floor, Rex descended the stairs to the first floor. He was in the entry way to the house and to his right was a living room and to his right was a closed set of doors. He could hear a coffee machine starting to run and smell fresh brewed coffee. He followed the smell which was joined by the smell of eggs and bacon through the rest of the house to the kitchen.
There at the stove stood a red-haired man. And through the back door he could see a wooden ramp that lead to the beach and the ocean. He now noticed that the window was open and he could hear the ocean.
“Ah, I see you are awake.” The smooth Scottish Bur, caused Rex to turn and see eyes that reflected the ocean. “I hope you slept well. Here eat. My name is Obi-wan by the way.”
Rex was flabbergasted as the man placed a full plate and a cup of coffee in front of him. He sat down to eat the breakfast.
“Names Rex. So, exactly what happened last night because I don’t remember seeing anyone who looked like you at the club last night?” Rex asked as he ate his first bite of the eggs.
“Oh, that would explain so much. But no, I didn’t meet you at any club. You must have taken a midnight swim and swam onto my beach and then just tried to go to sleep there.” Obi-wan said as he took a sip from a cup full of tea.
It took Rex several minutes to realize what Obi-wan said. “Wait, what?!”
Dread filled Rex’s bones as Obi-wan pointed to his coat sitting on the back of a chair. “Last night, I heard a commotion out on the beach. When I got out there, you had heaved your way up on to the beach. You took off your coat, which might I say was stupid and dangerous. You then tried to get yourself comfortable. And I came outside and tried to convince you to go home and when you wouldn’t I offered you one of the beds upstairs. You accepted and went inside leaving your coat on the beach. Which I reiterate was a stupid move. So, I brought it inside and found you sleeping on my bed. So, I slept in one of the guest’s beds.”
“I wait, what?!” Rex internally panicked as he looked at his coat sitting on a chair next to him. As he processed the issue, he started to panic over the implications of him owing someone he doesn’t even know.
“Don’t worry. You aren’t the first selkie that I’ve met nor the first that has ended up in this situation with me. So, let me just say. You are not obligated to me in any way and after you have eaten breakfast and had some coffee you are free to leave.” Obi-wan said as he took a bite of his toast.
The rest of breakfast ended in silence and Obi-wan handed Rex his coat as he walked to the beach to disappear in the waves. He promised himself that he wouldn’t get that drunk again and be such a fucking idiot after just returning home.
Obi-wan waved from his back door as the seal popped up to look at him one last time before they both turned their separate ways. Obi-wan into the house to get about his day and Rex to return to his family.
