Digital Pedagogy redux

After hundreds of hours of research (online and otherwise), travelling to the University of Victoria, British Columbia, for the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (twice!), taking the “Digital Pedagogy and Praxis” class, and talking with several of the presenters mentioned in this story at #DHSI last month: today I discovered the Digital Pedagogy Network. I must not be asking the right questions!

Why Victoria is cool

While I'm at it, I learned some sweet facts about Victoria. If you weren't already thinking, "Victoria sounds like the bomb"... 1) Nelly Furtado is from here 2) Victoria is the only city in Canada with a year on record with NO frost 3) British Columbia has an awesome climate for growing marijuana, and provides most of Canada's marijuana. A new farm for medical Mary-J opened in Victoria, and it provides most of BC's. Also, cops apparently turn a blind eye to recreational use if it's on an individual basis. (You may be surprised I'm posting this of all ppl, but literally, my bus driver told me all this unprovoked) 4) Opium used to be legal here, and it was smuggled into the US 5) One of its lakes is the location of Canada's Olympic rowing practice grounds 6) It has the second oldest Chinatown in North America, second to San Fran 7) John Wayne used to vacation here 8) You can see the Olympic Mountains and Mount Rainier from Victoria 9) Most of BC's arable land is here (90% of BC is mountainous) 10) It's great. 9 facts should be enough for you :)

Digital Humanities Survey Participants Needed!

Hi friends!

My colleagues and I are collecting data for a research paper on digital humanities pedagogy, and would be very appreciative of any contributions. We are interviewing instructors as well as surveying students, so if you have taught or taken a class about digital humanities, we want to hear from you!

Our research will investigate DH curriculum through the perspectives of students and faculty. We will examine how DH is taught and learned in various departments at both undergraduate and graduate levels of study. Interviews with DH instructors and students will provide a framework for understanding the nascent DH curriculum. This qualitative data will help open the dialogue between students and faculty, providing a platform for sharing practical tips for improving DH pedagogy and curriculum.
