Here's some delicious lore for you @spoon-gremlin
[this is where the keep reading line should be but because it's mobile nobody knows how to do it]
Your eyes gaze over the neatly written words on the parchment pages, occasionally an ink splotch from excess on the pen dripped onto the margins of the sheets. There are two very distinct handwritings within the book, it makes sense as the item in question has multiple authors. It's mostly personal accounts, just summaries of the days, except for sections marked carefully with dried pigments on the corners. Those ones are lengthy and tell a story.
<the date is in desperate scribbles, making it hard to read. The location is still legible, "Sanctuary">
Master suggested I start a journal to occupy myself while I'm healing. When I asked him where I should start he just gave me a look, I didn't press any further after that. I suppose it would be a good idea to write down the events, just in case I forget.
It was two months ago when I went with my adventuring team to our first dungeon without any of the supervisors with us. That was my first and last official mission.
Our group consisted of me and four other people, a sizeable group. We split up into the dungeon, I was with the person who left me for dead after leading me right into an ambush. My memory of what happened is foggy, I only found out about the ambush from Master.
Katsuki Bakugou had rounded up a whole hoard of beasts and led me right into the middle of them before running off. A couple spells and I was free, not without injuries, when the evacuation was called. I felt Katsuki's spare dagger wedge itself deeply into the back of my knee before he ran off without me, covered in my blood, no doubt coming up with some story how we had been ambushed and I had been killed and dragged off into the catacombs before he could retrieve my body.
I don't know how long I was there. I laid in a pool of my own blood for hours, unable to walk or even have any hopes of getting help. I don't remember very much, Master said that was normal for victims of traumatic events. But I'm certain it was Katsuki, his dagger was still embedded in my knee when I was found, and the rotted monster bodies surrounding me gave me some idea of my demise.
My master, Chizome Akaguro, was sent in to make sure I was gone. Instead he took me in and has been healing me back to full health, he says that once I'm fully healed he's going to teach me the ways of Rathma. He says that after hovering between life and death that it's only right for me to be reborn as a necromancer.
For whatever reason the cycle didn't see me, for that I'm greatfull.
My master is also the one who gave me a new name, who crossed out my past and gave me a new start. He calls me Izuku because I'm now the willing puppet of the cycle.
<there's no date or location titling this entry>
A fallen stranger appeared when a ritual went wrong, I had been trying to summon a golem and instead summoned the stranger. One of his wings had been broken and didn't heal properly, so I broke it again in order to fix it.
He's currently unconscious in my bedroom, I'll sleep in the foyer of the cellar tonight. I keep my Master's room upstairs untouched beyond cleaning, just in case he comes back. I doubt I'll see him any time soon, last I heard the guardians got him.
I wonder what happened to the stranger, I'll ask when he wakes up. Having company other than the golems and skeletons would be nice, I don't get visitors. The towns people who run the market don't ever come out this far.
-
The stranger woke up , he says his name is Tenya Iida. I told him mine is Izuku, when he asked for a last name I told him that I didn't have one because I was no longer bound to that life. He asked me what my name used to be, my response was that it belonged to a dead man now.
I asked Tenya how he broke his wing. He told me he fell after his brother was gravely injured, I told him that his wing should be fully healed in a couple of months.
We mostly just talked for hours on end. I told him that once I'm strong enough I'm going to find the people who left a boy for dead in the desert almost two years ago. He asked who the boy was, I told him the truth. Tenya was silent after that.
I'm glad I have company for once.
<The page is simply titled "Sanctuary">
Izuku has been kind enough to take me in, he's quite shorter than me but I can tell that he's respected and powerful. I watch as he casts his spells, carefully selecting the ones he masters to give him the upper hand.
He's noticed how I prefer cooler environments and no longer keeps the fire as high during the nights, instead hunkering down and bundling up. He lets me use his bed while he sleeps in the cellar foyer or in the large ritual room that connects the two rooms. I offer him his room but he always declines.
He often keeps the windows open and opts for setting up a massive curse circle around the small building. Somehow it doesn't affect us, but it wards off others by impacting them with crippling fragility, or so I'm told.
Izuku is a peculiar human. His answers to my questions about his past are usually vague and he shrugs them off like it's nothing. I once asked him why he gets to know my bast but I don't get to know his, "I don't have a past to share, just revenge to take."
Sometimes I feel that he's more powerful than he lets himself believe. It's almost a familiar aura I get from him, no different than that of the ancients, I suspect he has their blood in his veins.
I found out that his master is the one who attacked my brother and left him with grave injuries all those years ago, Izuku immediately apologized. He says that his master saved him and took him in, I know he had no connection to the injuring of Tensei. It doesn't stop me from being bitter towards him.
He doesn't seem to mind, and even offered to let me add to his journal. He says it helps him remember. I'm not sure how one could forget about a past like what I've read of his. Izuku is indeed a peculiar human, but I find myself enjoying his uniqueness. Perhaps that is why it is so hard to harbor any feelings of anger or hatred towards him.
