Diamond Manchester Collaboration - Call for Proposals
Researchers are being invited to apply for ‘beamtime’ at the Diamond Light Source. Allocation Period 21 will run from 31 March to 30 September 2017.
In 2010, the University of Manchester and Diamond Light Source entered into a collaboration to “discover, explore and exploit new science using Synchrotron Radiation”.
Under the terms of this Diamond Manchester Collaboration (DMC), Manchester part-funded a new X-ray imaging and tomography beamline at Diamond, now known as I13-2.
The high flux available at I13-2 means high signal-to-noise images can be recorded far more rapidly than with lab X-ray sources, enabling the study of dynamic processes such as fracturing of materials and electrochemical deposition.
The DMC Director, Neil Bourne, Professor of Matter in Extreme Environments, wishes to widen participation in DMC activities by Manchester researchers. Applications are therefore being encouraged from both new and established users.
Applications for use of DMC beamtime must have a University of Manchester academic as PI, but proposals in collaboration with other academic institutions or with industry are welcomed. If you would like to explore the possibility of working with the DMC, please contact the Project Manager, Dr Jenny Woods, for assistance.
All applications should be submitted through the Diamond User Administration System, where a specific DMC proposal template can be found. The closing date for applications is 1st November, 2016 and it is hoped to announce outcomes in mid-December.
Director of the DMC, Prof Neil Bourne (R) and Principal Beamline Scientist, Prof Christoph Rau (L), are encouraging applications for use of Diamond Manchester Collaboration beamtime.
