I'm hoping you're enough of a Swan Queen fan to like this. :) If not, you can replace them in your mind (with a little effort in some places) with two people you really, really like together. :D
Kisses were an interesting thing. Sometimes they were filled with passion, other times sadness, and on occasion, they were spurred from a drunken encounter fueled by lust and lowered inhibitions.
Somehow, none of the kisses she'd ever experienced could compare to even the idea of kissing Regina Mills. Lately, every thought seemed to revolve around Regina and there was no escaping how she felt about the woman. It was almost infuriating how often she wanted to talk to Regina or just be there when needed; be there as a friend, as more. It was impossible to want anything else but her.
Truthfully, though it would be a long and bumpy road with Regina, she knew it would be one of the easiest things to do: to be with Regina, be one of the things Regina could say was truly hers. The only thing easier was being a family with Regina and Henry and her parents too. If only she could convince Regina, if she could have a chance...
She immediately froze when she remembered Regina in front of her. How long had she spaced out?
"Is there something more important than the well being of our son that has you losing interest in this conversation?"
Regina had barely gotten the words out before Emma blurted, "Wanna hang out some time?"
Regina looked floored and she even took a small step back.
"Maybe have a drink, like coffee or something? Or get ice cream? Or maybe just family movie night with Henry, or dinner. Whatever. Regina, I just--"
She cut herself when she realized how crazy it all sounded out loud. After a moment, she deflated.
"Forget it," she quickly said as she turned away from the brunette and tried to get as far away as possible from the awkward conversation.
She'd barely taken more than four steps back the way she'd come to meet Regina for their talk, which was supposed to only be about Henry, when Regina's voice stopped her in her tracks.
"Family dinner tomorrow night at seven," she confirmed, the words posed as a statement and not a question. "Henry's been asking for that for a few days now so I don't see the harm. And..."
As Regina trailed off, Emma slowly turned to face her again with a little apprehension and a little hope as to what Regina could possibly say next.
"Maybe you could stay to watch a movie with us afterward," Regina finished.
She smiled, brighter, wider, than she had in years. She felt lighter than she had in a while, too. Family dinner followed by the possibility of family movie night. It was a start. A great, amazing, wonderful start.
