Featured Article: Mulan/Aurora

This week’s Featured Article is about Mulan/Aurora, the femslash pairing between Mulan and Princess Aurora from the series Once Upon a Time. Another popular name for the ship is Sleeping Warrior. The two characters had an adversarial relationship when they first met, but gradually grow closer as they travel together, with Mulan eventually developing romantic feelings for Aurora.

Fans were excited about the addition of Mulan and Aurora in the second season and were drawn to their rival-to-friends dynamic. As their relationship improve throughout the course of the season, interests for the pairing also grew exponentially. However, many fans were left disappointed with the lack of resolution for their story, as Mulan’s feelings remain unrequited and the two part ways without ever reuniting.

Although fans of Sleeping Warrior remained divisive over their tragic ending, the ship continued to be prevalent within OUAT femslash. Fanworks for the ship often have fix-it elements where Mulan and Aurora find each other again and continue their adventure across kingdoms.

This Disney crossover femslash collage is of Aurora of Sleeping Beauty x Fa Mulan of Mulan. I originally wanted to include their Once Upon A Time counterparts in the collage as well, since it was the live action series that drew people like me to this ship, but I ended up forgetting to so and didn't realise my mistake until the collage was finished. Despite that, I'm happy with how the collage turned out and not many people think about their Ralph Breaks the Internet or Mirrorverse counterparts when shipping the two together, maybe this collage will get others to do so.

Sleeping Warrior has also been called Aurolan, Mulora and WarriorPrincess.
